    CLOTMix 081: EROTECHRE

Best known to many through their work as DJ Maicol, Erotechre marks a different outlet for the Glaswegian artist. Following a formative spell in Vietnam, it gradually evolved into something far less fixed, laying the foundations for a radically different approach to live performance. From its earliest conception, Erotechre has resisted settling into a fixed form. What began as an ambition to realise the project as a band has gradually evolved into a live machine-based performance where improvisation and instinct are not simply creative tools but the conditions from which the music emerges. At the heart of that evolution is a broad constellation of influences gathered across different places and experiences. Encounters with improvised music, ritual performance, club culture and experimental electronics have all quietly informed Erotechre's musical language. For the latest CLOTmix, we caught up with the artist behind Erotechre ahead of their show at The Waiting Room in London this Saturday to discuss improvisation, cyber aesthetics, the creative potential of risk and what can happen when performance is allowed to exceed intention. CLOTMix 80: DONNA HARINGWEY - Music to listen to alone

The latest mixtape comes from Donna Haringwey, the alias of Portugal-based producer Toni Quiroga, whose work occupies the shifting territory between hardcore, industrial, noise and electronic music. Emerging from a world of experimentation, musical fluidity and an enduring commitment to following creative instinct over stylistic convention, the project has gradually developed a distinct artistic language that resists easy categorisation. His latest release, GOD, marks another chapter in a catalogue defined by sonic confrontation, emotional immediacy and an unwavering resistance to the conventions of genre. Described by Quiroga as "a record about love, without spectacle", the album channels deep emotional undercurrents through a relentless collision of distortion, industrial ferocity and hardcore energy. Along the way, echoes of emo, early dubstep and cloud rap emerge, while the softly auto-tuned vocal intimacy recalls bands such as Team Sleep, balancing sonic extremity with moments of introspective vulnerability. We caught up with Donna Haringwey to discuss the evolution of the project, artistic freedom in an age of algorithms, relocating to Portugal and the influences behind his exclusive CLOT mixtape. CLOTMix 079: EVOL - Roc's Deep Meditation Mixtape

The next mixtape instalment comes from Barcelona-based artist Roc Jiménez de Cisneros - one half of EVOL, the long-running project with Stephen Sharp - ahead of a late-night set at the upcoming bank holiday gathering in London, Sunday School VI: Noctifer. Across decades, EVOL have stripped rave down to its core mechanics - rhythm, repetition, synthesis - only to reassemble them as unstable, recursive forms. Their work treats dance music less as genre than as system: something to be reduced, stressed, and reconfigured. Extending this logic through solo and parallel projects, Jiménez de Cisneros operates across a dispersed network of releases where structures hold, but never quite settle. Minimal arrangements generate overwhelming density; familiar gestures return warped, slightly out of alignment. Ahead of his April 5th appearance at Low Profile Studios in Manor House, this mix pushes into the hyper-processed edges of contemporary club music - where kicks mutate into force fields and maximal impact emerges from minimal means. CLOTMix 078: Vanity Productions - 'The sea is always the same'

The next mixtape instalment comes from Vanity Productions, the alias of Danish experimental musician Christian Stadsgaard, whose work navigates the fragile space between melancholic melody, noise and electronic experimentation.  A central figure in Denmark’s experimental scene, Stadsgaard co-runs the influential Copenhagen imprint Posh Isolation, while projects such as Damien Dubrovnik and The Empire Line have helped shape the Nordic underground over the past decade. His forthcoming album, The Vanity Project, to be released April 10 via Northern Electronics - run by Varg2™ and Anthony Linell - draws inspiration from Robert Rauschenberg’s Hoarfrost series, with its fragile, suspended collages. Warped tape textures, found sounds, and bursts of noise electronics intertwine with drifting melodic fragments, producing a sound world that is dreamlike yet quietly unsettling. The compositions balance delicate melodic passages with darker tonal undercurrents, moving between intimacy and abrasion while exploring reflection, perspective, and what lies ahead. The album also reconnects Stadsgaard with Merzbow, following their 2019 collaborative album Coastal Erosion, continuing a dialogue between noise extremity and emotional fragility that runs throughout the Vanity Productions project. This mixtape reflects some of the sound influences behind the artist's new production. Tracklist: Vanity Productions & Kasia Golla: Unreleased Abul Mograd: In True Contemplation Vanity Productions: Unreleased Museum Fatigue: New World Maria W Horn: PANOPTIKON  Vanity Productions: Unreleased Merzbow + Nicolas Harvath: 914 for Horvath Eliane Radigue: Usral Vanity Productions: Unreleased Carlos Giffoni & Joachim Nordwall: Physics Vanity Productions & Kasia Golla: Unreleased Vanity Productions: Hoarfrost

    Denovali presents Taroug - Untitled

We are presenting our latest auditory journey curated by Taroug for CLOT Magazine's mixtape series. Taroug is the solo project of drummer and electronic music producer Tarek Zarroug, whose unique perspective is shaped by his roots in the suburbs of the Tunisian desert and his upbringing in Germany. Following his 2020 EP "Perpetual" and a series of notable remixes for artists such as Archive, Taroug has continued to evolve and refine his musical aesthetic. Taroug’s debut album, Darts & Kites, was released on Denovali Records. Drawing inspiration from the infinite possibilities of Penrose tiling, the album explores themes of change and transformation. This fascination is reflected in the album's nine tracks and cover art design, creating a cohesive artistic vision. The album presents a captivating blend of genres and styles, resulting in a sonic landscape that is both haunting and beautiful while weaving together experimental and abstract soundscapes with oriental influences, collected field recordings, pulsating dark beats, and hypnotic vocals. Contributions from notable artists further enrich the album: Beate Wolff’s cello, Benedikt Koch’s saxophone, Timo Schieber’s piano, and Niklas Genschel’s vocals alongside Abdallah Abozekry’s saz. The album artwork, a collaboration with architect and designer Marie Brosius, captures the intricate patterns and ornaments that reflect the album’s themes. It emerges as a mosaic of sound, seamlessly blending the unfamiliar with the familiar. For this mixtape, the artist mentions he has combined tracks from his album Darts & Kites with unreleased material, sketches, hidden gems, and inspirations from the Tunisian experimental and electronic music scene. CLOT Magazine presents Lola de la Mata - Along a semi-circular bone

Introducing the latest auditory journey curated by Lola de la Mata for CLOT Magazine's mixtape series. Delving into the mysterious realms of sound, the experimental composer presents a meticulously crafted selection of tracks that traverse the boundless landscapes of sonic exploration. Lola de la Mata, a London-born French/Spanish conceptual sound artist, composer, curator, and musician (violin/voice/theremin), boasts a diverse practice spanning performance art, installation, community projects, and electroacoustic composition. Her first release, the feminist concept album REMISE EN BOUCHE (Pan y Rosas Discos 2018), was followed by The Embalmer (Nonclassical 2021) and KOH—Klee—uh (SA Recordings 2022), laying the groundwork for her latest album, Oceans on Azimuth, set for release on May 8th. Currently, Lola’s artistic focus centres around listening and hearing practices, tinnitus and aural diversity, and chronic illness experiences, something she focused on after experiencing a trauma episode herself. Rather than giving up music after developing severe tinnitus and vertigo, as she was told, she decided to listen with a new ear and dive deep into the world of tinnitus to cope with the isolating condition and facilitate the connection between sufferers. For Oceans on Azimuth, she reached out to A.J. Hudspeth in New York who runs the sensory cell lab where they study the cochlea. There, she found collaborators in biophysicists who offered her the unique experience of recording her tinnitus. Drawing inspiration from the intricate forms of the cochlea and the inner ear, Lola's compositions emerge as avant-garde sonic tapestries, woven from the rhythmic pulsations of heartbeats and the ethereal whispers of tinnitus, transmuted through an array of innovative instruments. Metal, glass, ceramic, and ice converge to birth otherworldly timbres, while field recordings and traditional string instruments intertwine with inventions like the Claravox theremin and an ear canal-shaped gong. On the other hand, the artist's influence also extends far beyond the realm of composition. As a multifaceted artist, curator, and musician, her tireless advocacy for inclusivity and representation reverberates through her work. From collaborations with fellow artists (musicians, dancers and queer performance artists, most recently with Eve Stainton to a PhD pursuit in tinnitus research.  For this mix, she mentions: I treated the mix as a sonic collection of some of the artists I met and who inspired me along my project journey. With the exception of AYA and Tomoko Sauvage, whom I haven’t (yet?) had the chance to meet, some were chance meetings. Stephan Crasneanscki, founder of Soundwalk Collective and Maria Chávez at Rewire last year, for bagpipe player and composer Lise Barkas and I, it was mutual curiosity sitting by the Niki de Saint Phalle fountain outside IRCAM in Paris; while others such as Kepla are supporters of me and my work, and in Mira Calix’s case, whom this record is dedicated to, she adopted me as her mentee for two years before she passed. The other dedication on the record is to Anneka Swann - a friend who will retain part of my soul…with May 8th, the album release date marking one year since I last held her. Just as sombreness infused with respite flows through my body and left ear. The mix is imbued with grief, reflection and recalibration. Tracklist 1. Left Ear - Lola de la Mata 2. CLOT Magazine presents Suk Hong - whelk stall

The latest mixtape instalment hails from Seoul-based Korean experimental musician Suk Hong, offering a curated selection of tracks that traverse the artist's creative journey for their upcoming project. Suk Hong's musical style gracefully navigates between neo-classical and electronic influences. Fresh from their recent release on Unseelie, an NYC-based label, Suk Hong returns with a more introspective and expansive piece, My Day is Sold by the Hour, which debuted at the start of March on endonesia, an alternative art platform based between New York and Seoul. Recorded amidst the misty atmosphere of the Guro district, Korea's bustling digital industrial complex, My Day is Sold by the Hour encapsulates the essence of its surroundings through sonic storytelling. While the area is blanketed in fog, its stories are evident sonically. String instrumentations echo like distant growls, while a tapestry of field recordings collected over three years weaves a textured narrative within a granular, deconstructed framework. With electroacoustic techniques and contemporary sonic landscapes intertwined, Hong seeks to unveil the inherent extraordinariness of captured moments, carving timbres that contour the running narrative - an unforeseeable series of vignettes. In discussing what the artist has created for this mixtape, Hong reveals ongoing work on an album delving into the modernity of Korean families, including their own: It follows the approach of My Day is Sold by the Hour, but this time, I need more than one track to present the complete picture. It's a longer project, so I need to cleanse my palette occasionally for a fresh perspective. These are the songs I turn to. This collection of tracks offers a tantalising glimpse into Suk Hong's creative universe, teasing the imagination with its suggestive and mysterious allure.
