    Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #135 - Angry Goth Horses in Your Neighborhood

    Kat, Leo, and Bcom return to cover the anime that aired during Week 8 of the Spring 2020 season. In the latest episode of Wave, Listen to Me, we learn the hilarious story behind Minare’s strange name. Shinako is finally starting to confront her true feelings for Rikuo, while Rikuo wonders why he’s relieved that they haven’t take things to the next level, in the latest episode of Sing Yesterday. My Next Life as a Villainness engages in some isekai-ception, which has us wondering how deep the layers of isekai will go. An otherwise cute episode of Kakushigoto, about Hime naming their new dog and wanting a birthday party, also drip feeds us more info about her mother’s past. It becomes clear that Akito views Tohru Honda as his rival for the love of the Soma family, and it seems they’re going to end up on a collision course as Fruits Basket’s drama continues to build. Princess Connect falls victim to the episode 8 curse, and panders to its gacha game audience. Kaguya continues its excellent, but frustrating run, with a big tease where we almost see the main characters trick themselves into breaking through their détente. And finally, BNA’s latest episode teaches us that all cops are dogs, literally. Recorded June 25, 2020.     Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #134 - Truck-kun Has Retroactively Isekai'd You

    Bcom, Kat, and Leo are back to chat about anime that aired during Week 7 of the Spring 2020 season. Our discussion of Wave, Listen to Me notes the reference to the movie In the Realm of the Senses, but Bcom forgets to mention that this was based on the real-life story of murderous Japanese geisha Sada Abe. We don’t necessarily love the way Yesterday wo Utatte keeps treading water, but we do love the new shmup-styled ED. We learn retroactively that truck-kun claimed another victim – the villainess, Catarina. But Catarina isn’t the only real-world person isekai’d into Fortune Lover… Kakushigoto gets us thinking about our pet’s life expectancy, which is depressing and sad, and becomes even more so when the show draws parallels to Hime’s parents. We struggle to determine whether Shigure is better or worse than Sugar Ray in the latest episode of Fruits Basket, and discuss American vs. Japanese recreational traditions. Princess Connect shows its gacha game roots by introducing more characters without laying the groundwork for us to care about them, but still manages to pull off some nice character development for Pecorine and Karyl. Bcom and Leo talk about their sordid past underwear stylings to discover if they are manwhores according to Yuu Ishigami. BNA touches on the politics of border controls, immigration, and refugee crises in its latest episode focuses on the plight of migratory bird beastmen. Recorded June 15, 2020.     Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #133 - Flying With Your Balls and Midseason Cuts

    Leo, Kat and Bcom are back to chat about anime that aired during Week 6 of the Spring 2020 season. It’s midseason again, and that means it’s time to decide which shows to keep, and which shows to drop as we move forward. Things are getting awfully fishy in the latest episode of Wave, Listen to Me, and we pitch the idea for a new product called “gamer girl kuchikamizake.” We rave about Rikuo’s ex-girlfriend, Chika, in Sing “Yesterday” and wonder how we’d react if our ex-partners forced their way back into our lives. We worry that Bakarina can’t feel safe even when surrounded by her closest friends and family, because it turns out they’re pretty creepy sometimes. Clair undergoes a very strange “ritual” to determine whether she is trustworthy to join a new group of gatherers in the latest episode of Gleipnir. We get into a big argument that comes down to, “whose hat was it?!” when discussing Fruits Basket. The producers of Princess Connect decided to pay Kana Hanazawa good money to talk to a stump of wood for about 5 minutes, and it was money well spent. It’s student council election time in Kaguya-sama, as Miyuki and Miko face off in an epic debate in front of the entire school. With Nazuna’s introduction, our conversation on BNA inevitably goes off the rails into a full-on discussion on cults and religion. We then discuss potential replacement shows before moving into a lengthy bargaining session while deciding midseason cuts. Recorded May 31, 2020.     Kat, Leo, and Bcom are back to talk about anime that aired during Week 5 of the Spring 2020 season. The latest episode of Wave, Listen to Me was ruined by turtle poop. A romantic rival for Haru appears in Sing Yesterday, and Bcom grows somewhat more irritated by both Shinako and Haru for falling into the same unproductive patterns. Bakarina wins over the main heroine’s mother with some farming and kindness. Gleipnir continues to depict the sweatiest legs in anime. Arisa meets a new Souma, and becoming attached to him might lead her to be caught up in more Souma family drama. We get into a rant about skimpy outfits in anime in our coverage of Princess Connect, where the girls have to rescue Yuuki from a nightmare hospital. Chika’s maternal instincts kick in once again as Miyuki needs a mommy to guide him through his traumatic singing experiences. Finally, we talk about the latest episode of Baseball New Animal, which is the latest in a long tradition of great individual baseball episodes in non-sports anime. Recorded May 25, 2020.     Bcom, Leo, and Kat are back to chat about anime that aired during Week 4 of the Spring 2020 season. Minare continues to fend off Nakahara’s romantic advances until a strange, opportunistic woman shows up at the curry restaurant in Wave, Listen to Me. Bcom was very confused about a Rikuo doppelganger in the latest episode of Sing Yesterday. Bakarina continues to be oblivious to the effect she’s having on the people around her, and continues to strategize to avoid being exiled from the magical academy in My Next Life as a Villainess. We discuss the ups and downs of the trashy writing in the latest episode of Gleipnir. Leo decides that 90s windows weren’t as strong in explaining the events of the latest Fruits Basket episode. Kat can confirm there is in fact a llama girl introduced in the newest episode of Princess Connect, while Leo explains how wood-chopping works. Bcom enjoys the Bakemonogatari and Tanya the Evil references in the latest episode Kaguya-sama. Leo is annoyed that some ignorant humans don’t understand that dolphins breathe air, not water, in the latest episode of BNA. Recorded May 23, 2020.     Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #130 - You Don't Deserve That Umbrella

    Leo, Kat and Bcom are back to chat about anime that aired during Week 3 of the Spring 2020 season. Minare discovers she isn’t the high-functioning drunk she always believed she was in the latest episode of Wave, Listen to Me. Episode 3 of Sing Yesterday convinces Bcom that Haru is a more multi-dimensional character than he had initially thought, and we all have a lot to say about this developing love quadrangle. The “Villainess” Katarina adds another girl to her growing harem before jumping into a time-skip that leads into the actual beginning of the otome game. We meet Clair’s mysterious sister Elena in the latest episode of Gleipnir, and she is very jealous upon finding Clair inside of Shuuichi’s suit. Yuki continues to find the courage to reach out to the people around him more often in Fruits Basket 2nd season. Leo is impressed by how the first three episodes of Princess Connect have crafted an interesting world, with hilarious characters, and have now laid out a roadmap for exploring their collective appetite for fried rice, among other delicious meals. Bcom argues that Kaguya season 1 truly should’ve ended with the ending of episode 3 of season 2, as it seems to be a natural, satisfying stopping point. Finally, the shady practices of Sylvasta Pharmaceutical are hinted at being connected with whatever made Michiru transform into a Beastman in BNA. Recorded May 17, 2020.     Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime Podcast #128 - Winter 2020 Wrap-up and Final Scores

    Leo, Kat, and Bcom are back to finish off the Winter 2020 anime season with reviews of episodes from weeks 12 and 13. We have a lot of nonsense to talk about since we haven’t recorded for a few weeks and we’ve seen a lot of good, and bad, things in the meantime. We review the final episodes of all the anime we followed, and also talk briefly about some shows we watched outside of the podcast. Finally, we give our final scores and thoughts on the shows we watched in Winter season, and look forward to the Spring 2020 season…or what’s left of it. Recorded April 28, 2020.
