    Investment markets: October 2026

It was a tough month for shares in both Australia and the US—Australia’s share market was down 3%, with 10 of the market’s 11 sectors lower. While the US was down just 0.5%, the performance of AI and tech companies masked broader weakness. Meta was a key winner, up 27% off the back of new product releases including its new AI app, Muse. Higher interest rates, rising bond yields and surging energy prices all weighed on markets. So, what drove this activity? In this episode, UniSuper’s Head of Fixed Interest David Colosimo talks about the latest market news and the key things we’re watching out for over the coming month.
