    How to Keep From Getting “Text Neck”

What do we offer? Click here Want to request an appointment? Click here Neck pain is a problem for many people in our society, but there are certain things you can do to prevent it from affecting you.  One of the biggest causes of neck pain is “text neck.” When you look down at your phone while you’re reading it or texting, you’re putting your spine in a very compromising position. In the video above, you can see a model of what this looks like.  Text neck is a problem because every time you bend your head down like that, it compresses certain nerves and discs in your neck. This can cause a whole host of issues, including neck pain, spasms, headaches, and muscle fatigue. To prevent text neck, bring the arm you hold your phone with up while you’re reading it or texting and use the other arm to support it. This will bring your head upright, which is where it should be when you’re texting or reading something on your phone. You might look weird in public with this posture, but you’ll be the only person in the room who doesn’t have neck pain. “ To prevent text neck, read your phone with your head upright. ” Text neck also causes the muscles on the back of your neck to weaken, but there’s a very simple exercise you can do to strengthen them. Stand tall with your head over your shoulders and interlock your hands behind your head. Then, press your head backwards into your hands and hold it for 10 full seconds and rest. Do this exercise 10 or 15 times throughout the day.  If you follow these tips on a regular basis but you’re still experiencing neck pain, you may have a more serious underlying issue afflicting your spine.     What’s Causes Low Back Pain and How Can You Fix It?

What causes it? What can you do to fix it? We’re going to answer both questions for you today and offer some tips on how to alleviate low back pain if you or someone you know suffers from it. The main cause of back pain is too much sitting. You have to sit in the car to get to work, sit at your desk while you’re at work, then come home to sit on the couch when you’re done with work. A sedentary lifestyle like this can cause low back pain because it compresses your spine. In addition to pain, it can cause numbness and tingling. Here are a few different ways to help alleviate that pain: 1. Wobble disc. You’ve probably heard or seen someone using a big exercise ball as a chair in order to alleviate back pain. It works, but it’s not very practical and it still leaves you susceptible to bad posture. With a wobble disc like this one you can get on Amazon, you can get all of the benefits of an exercise ball (core stability, healthy spine position) with little of the inconvenience. It’s a comfy cushion that fits on your chair and forces you to stay put in a healthy spinal position while preventing slouching. “ A wobble disc is handy, useful, and discreet. ” 2. Runner’s lunge. This is a great stretch for your hip flexor, which is one of the main culprits of low back pain. Check the video above for the proper form. Doing 15 of these anytime you feel that pain coming on will help to calm your muscles. What do we offer? Click here Want to request an appointment? Click here Headaches and migraines have become a huge issue in today’s world, affecting half the population of the United States and two-thirds of people in the corporate world.  If you’re one of the many who suffers from either of these, you know just how much they can impede your daily life. They can debilitate you by taking away your time with loved ones, making you less productive at work, and many other ways. Even if you suffer from them, you might not know that their most common cause is our lifestyle. Driving to and from work, sitting at your desk, and especially using your cell phone all contribute to poor posture—something that causes a number of abnormalities in the spine.  When you sit, stand, and move with good posture, your spine is designed so that there is minimal pressure being placed upon your nervous system.  “ When you sit, stand, and move with good posture, your spine is designed so that there is minimal pressure being placed upon your nervous system. ” However, when you get into the habit of hunching over in your day-to-day life during activities like driving, working, or texting, it can put real pressure on your spine and nervous system.  This pressure can cause chronic brainstem issues, the No. 1 cause of headaches and migraines. Additionally, bad posture can result in a reversal of curvature in your neck and spine, which in turn compresses the space that should normally exist between your upper vertebrae and brainstem.  We’d like to invite you to come into our office.
