Becoming a Friend of Jesus | Pastor Dick Brogden | Revival Sunday Venture Church

What does it mean to be a friend of Jesus? In this Revival Sunday message, Pastor Dick Brogden challenges us to see missions not just as something the church supports, but as a response to friendship with Jesus. Teaching from John 15, Pastor Dick reminds us that Jesus has called us His friends, trusted us with His mission, and invited us to participate in bringing the gospel to the nations. With billions of people still unreached and thousands of people groups with little or no access to the gospel, the call of God is still urgent. This message unpacks what it means to give friendship back to Jesus by encouraging Him, defending Him, standing with Him, sharing His heart, and stewarding the trust He has placed in us. Pastor Dick also reminds us that God does not need perfect people to accomplish His mission. He uses weak, willing, Spirit-filled people who spend time with Jesus, humble themselves in prayer, and say yes to His call. Whether you are called to go, give, pray, support, or take a first step toward missions, this message is a powerful reminder that Jesus is worthy of our whole lives. If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to be reminded that God can use them to make Jesus known. What does it actually mean to fear the Lord?In this message, Pastor Brandon continues our Chasing Purpose series as we move from Ecclesiastes into the book of Proverbs. Solomon begins Proverbs by teaching that wisdom starts with one foundational truth: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”But fear of the Lord does not mean being scared of God. For followers of Jesus, it means living with reverence, awe, humility, and deep respect for who God is. It means choosing God’s wisdom over our own understanding, listening to His voice above the opinions of the world, and allowing His Word to shape the way we live.Pastor Brandon reminds us that there are always two voices competing for our attention: wisdom and foolishness, God’s way and our own way. True wisdom begins when we surrender our plans, trust God’s direction, and live with reverence for the One who created us, loves us, and will never leave us.This message also includes a powerful time of communion and a Kingdom Builders Light Bearers Project update. If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs wisdom and direction this week.Make sure to like and subscribe to stay up to date with weekly messages from Venture Church.Timestamps0:00 – YouTube Welcome from Pastor Brandon 0:18 – Welcome to Venture Church 1:25 – Introducing Proverbs 1:52 – Proverbs of Solomon 3:03 – The Fear of the Lord Is the Beginning of Knowledge 3:35 – How to Read the Bible 5:02 – Reading a Proverb a Day 5:27 – The Main Theme of Proverbs 6:00 – Proverbs as Wisdom Literature 7:27 – What Wisdom Means 8:01 – Wisdom and Folly 8:55 – Two Voices Competing for Your Attention 9:28 – God’s Plan vs. Our Plan 10:15 – Everyone Has an Opinion 11:44 – Wisdom and Folly in Everyday Life 12:17 – Real Questions People Are Asking Right Now 13:49 – Unlocking Wisdom in Proverbs 14:26 – God’s Plan vs. My Plan 15:23 – The Way of a Fool Seems Right 16:32 – When Feelings Lead Us the Wrong Way 17:54 – What Does “Fear of the Lord” Mean? 19:25 – Fear of God Without Jesus 20:10 – The Journey of Following Jesus 20:35 – Fear of God as Reverence 21:05 – Worshiping God with Reverence and Awe 21:44 – Respectful Fear of God 22:48 – A Child’s Reverence for Their Parents 24:15 – Reverential Respect 25:03 – God Is the Creator, We Are His Creation 25:56 – Reverence, Obedience, and Fellowship with God 26:09 – True Wisdom Comes from Knowing Who God Is 27:09 – Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love 28:44 – God Will Never Leave or Forsake Us 29:12 – Fear of the Lord Shapes How We Live 30:25 – Fear of God Drives Out Fear of Man 30:58 – Obedience Leads to Deeper Relationship 31:06 – Communion Moment 32:27 – Reflecting and Remembering 33:52 – Making Things Right with Jesus 35:22 – Remembering What Jesus Has Done 36:01 – Receiving the Bread 36:42 – The Cup and the Blood of Jesus 37:52 – Invitation to Begin a Relationship with Jesus 39:17 – Salvation Prayer 40:10 – Receiving the Cup 40:13 – Worship Response 45:15 – Kingdom Builders Light Bearers Project Update 45:36 – Mike and Kayla Anderson Share 46:18 – Why Kids Ministry Matters 47:17 – Ways to Participate in Light Bearers 48:24 – Invitation to Give 48:43 – What’s Next Resource 49:03 – YouTube Outro
