Through Atonement and a Wordy King, God's Grace Triumphs over sin

This sermon explores the narrative arc of Isaiah 1 through 12, illustrating how God's grace triumphs over human sin through atonement and a worthy King. The message begins by establishing Israel's purpose to display God's righteousness, contrasting the ideal Zion of Isaiah 2 with the reality of a people unfit for use due to rebellion and idolatry. In Isaiah 6, the prophet confronts the traumatic holiness of God, recognizing his own guilt, but receives cleansing through a coal from the altar, demonstrating that God alone provides atonement. The sermon then identifies the unworthiness of earthly kings like Ahaz, pointing to the promised Messiah who fulfills the role of both the suffering servant and the eternal ruler. Ultimately, the text concludes that Jesus Christ is the only King worthy of the title, who atones for sin and reigns in grace, inviting believers to trust in His salvation and praise the Holy One of Israel.

Hezekiah’s Pride and the Coming Exile

This sermon examines the narrative of King Hezekiah in Isaiah 39, highlighting how divine blessings can inadvertently reveal the pride and self-reliance within a believer's heart. The central message warns that human strength, wealth, and political alliances are ultimately unstable and cannot provide true security, as illustrated by the prophecy of Babylon's future conquest of Judah. By contrasting Hezekiah's failure to glorify God with his display of treasures, the text emphasizes the necessity of placing ultimate trust in God rather than in earthly possessions or personal achievements. The sermon concludes by pointing to Jesus Christ as the only sufficient and eternal King who bears the judgment of sin and offers true salvation, urging listeners to rely on His grace rather than their own goodness or circumstances.
