Anaheim artist Villiami returns to The Rodriguez Show to talk about the momentum he's been building onstage, online, and in his hometown. We get into the viral response to his "Squabble Up" remix, his growing connection with the Polynesian community, and how his Tongan, Samoan and Mexican roots have shaped his identity as an artist. For Villiami, it's about making music that highlights what makes him different instead of trying to sound like everybody else. Villiami also breaks down the meaning behind "Swayzee," a mindset built around taking losses, learning from them, and continuing to move forward. We talk about the vision behind All or Nothing Records, working alongside YBG and his team, new music, merch, his move toward Bandcamp, and why maintaining his peace and staying true to himself have become just as important as the hustle. Plus, Villiami looks back at the moment he first became a fan of his own music again and shares the two songs new listeners should start with: "Swayzee" and "Ferris Wheel." Tap in with Villiami and don't miss Swayzee Summer September 26! https://villiami.com/

EP 23: Kenneth Goodrich on The Last Day, Reinventing Himself & the Death of a Starving Artist

Kenneth Goodrich joins The Rodriguez Show to talk about his new album The Last Day, a fresh and experimental project that still delivers on the bars, hooks, and energy at the heart of his music. Kenneth takes us back to the motocross injury that completely changed the direction of his life. After spending years identifying as a motocross racer, he found music while recovering in a hospital bed and eventually had to leave his old identity behind to fully commit to becoming an artist. He talks about moving to Long Beach, learning hip-hop culture, teaching himself music production, and why he ultimately decided he needed the creative freedom to make everything himself. We also get into the deeply personal side of his recent music, including I Miss My Mom, Grandma Called, and the fear that comes with putting your real life into your art. Kenneth breaks down the world-building behind The Last Day, why he's moving away from the idea of being a "starving artist," balancing multiple jobs with music, overcoming perfectionism, and why authenticity has become more important to him than chasing the perfect hit record. Plus, Kenneth shares his advice for artists learning to produce their own music, how repetition unlocked his creativity, and the experiences in Long Beach that helped him find his confidence as a rapper. The Last Day is out now. Follow Kenneth Goodrich: @kenn.goodrich Watch every week for music news, dj mixes, artist interviews and more!
