65: Inside the Art Department, with Art Director Brian LaRossa

We're back from hiatus with special guest Brian LaRossa, who in addition to being an Executive Art Director at Scholastic, is an educator, pizza-maker, and all-around mensch. We tackle a variety of topics, like what IS an Art Director, how does the Art Department work with illustrators, what role do they play in the acquisitions process, how do typography and design affect the reading experience, and a whole lot more. It was a fun conversation, I learned a ton, and I hope you will also have fun listening to it!

Excellent in so many ways!

As a traditionally-published picture book author trying to catch up on the industry after a lengthy break, I’ve found Literaticast to be so very helpful a variety of ways. Jen’s interviews are chock full of great insights. I appreciate her down to Earth style and humor, which keeps me listening (ok, binging). I also enjoy the many helpful tidbits offered by the wide variety of publishing professionals and of course the inspiring stories of each guest author. I’ve been sharing this pod with my writing community, from the newbies to the veterans. Sure hope it continues! Thanks, Jen!

Helpful and hilarious!

Jennifer and her amazing line up of guests have been keeping me company this winter while I walk my dog and do the dishes. Such a great combo of warm, funny, interesting conversation and truly helpful nuggets of insight and information about the craft and business of children's literature, including elements of the industry that are less often talked about, like translation.
