    FTNCI 098: Roark’s Courtroom Speech

The New Intellectual Book Study met in 2022 and 2023 to discuss For the New Intellectual, by Ayn Rand. This week our reading was pages 77–86. About the Book Study: Today’s society is degenerating into a cult of despair. Not even churches are immune. In For the New Intellectual, Ayn Rand gave a brilliant overview of the status of Western culture, what brought us here, and how to bring a second Renaissance. The book is a good first or second read for someone wanting to understand Ayn Rand’s Objectivism. Rand offered the book as a collection of the essential ideas in her philosophy “for those who wish to acquire an integrated view of existence.” Rand’s goal was to advocate against mysticism, altruism, and collectivism, and for their opposites: reason, individualism, and capitalism. This book study was designed for Christians interested in understanding Rand’s work and finding out where her insights can be valuable specifically to Christians. Project Outline: Ayn Rand’s “For the New Intellectual” Week 01 – pg 10–23 Week 02 – pg 24–37 Week 03 – pg 37–57 Ayn Rand’s Character Speeches Week 01 – Short Speeches, pg 60–76 Week 02 – Roark’s Courtroom Speech, pg 77–86 Week 03 – Earlier Atlas Shrugged Speeches, pg 88–101 Week 04 – Later Atlas Shrugged Speeches, pg 101–116 Galt’s Speech Weeks 01 – 05 Listen to the podcast in the player below, or view the video here.
