Life of Messiah 56 Sermon on the Mount Part 12 -Matthew 5:21-26 Dr Fretwell

Sermon on the Mount: Jesus Exposes the Heart Behind ‘Do Not Murder’ (Matthew 5:17–26) This episode of Theology and Apologetics with Thomas Fretwell continues the Sermon on the Mount by recapping Matthew 5:17–20, emphasizing Jesus’ authority, the enduring authority of every “jot and tittle” of Scripture, and the need for righteousness surpassing the scribes and Pharisees through faith and repentance. It then studies Matthew 5:21–26, explaining that the command against murder addresses not only the external act but the internal heart—anger, hatred, contempt, and demeaning speech (including “raca” and “you fool”)—which make a person liable before God’s ultimate judgment. Drawing from Old Testament law, Cain and Abel, and other passages, the teaching highlights God’s concern for the heart and the image of God in people, urges reconciliation before worship, and warns against ignoring sin until it brings severe consequences, pointing listeners to Christ’s righteousness and “the obedience of faith.” Become a supporter and get unlimited questions turned into podcasts at: www.patreon.com/theologyandapologetics YouTube Channel: Theology & Apologetics www.youtube.com/channel/UChoiZ46uyDZZY7W1K9UGAnw TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@dr.fretwell?_t=ZN-8w8NXIFTHkc&_r=1 Instagram: www.instagram.com/theology.apologetics Websites: www.ezrafoundation.org www.theologyandapologetics.com

Life of Messiah 55 Sermon on the Mount Part 11 -Matthew 5:17-20 Dr Fretwell

Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:17–20): Jesus Fulfills the Law, the “Shellfish Argument,” and a High View of Scripture Thomas Fretwell continues the Life of Messiah series through the Sermon on the Mount, recapping the Beatitudes and Jesus’ call to be salt and light, then focusing on Matthew 5:17–20 where Jesus says He did not abolish the Law or the Prophets but fulfilled them. He explains the dispute with Pharisaic oral tradition, distinguishes Torah/Prophets/Writings (Tanakh), and argues Christ fulfilled the Mosaic Law, sacrificial system, and prophecies while inaugurating the new covenant and the “law of Christ.” He addresses the common “shellfish” objection by distinguishing laws unique to Israel from moral commands repeated before and after Moses in the New Testament. He emphasizes Jesus’ doctrine of verbal plenary inspiration, warning against setting aside God’s commandments, and concludes that righteousness must surpass the Pharisees’ by faith in Christ, not law-keeping. Using 1 Peter 3:15, he teaches Christians to honour Christ as Lord, be prepared to give an apologia with reasons for their hope, and respond with gentleness and respect. He then highlights 2 Corinthians 10:5 on destroying arguments raised against the knowledge of God and taking thoughts captive to Christ, noting changing historical challenges to Christianity. Jude 1:3 calls believers to contend for the faith once delivered, emphasising that good apologists must be good theologians. Colossians 2:8 warns against being taken captive by worldly philosophy and empty deception, and Philippians 1:7 links the defence and confirmation of the gospel. He previews a future episode addressing objections to apologetics.

What is the Purpose of Christian Apologetics - 5 Minute Apologetics with Dr Fretwell

What Is the Purpose of Apologetics? 5 Reasons Every Christian Should Defend the Faith | Five Minute Apologetics In this episode of Five Minute Apologetics, Dr. Thomas Fretwell explains the purpose of Christian apologetics as the rational defense of the Christian faith and gives five reasons every Christian should engage in it: defending the truth of Christianity and the explanatory power of the biblical worldview; refuting common accusations against the faith with clear, evidence-based responses; helping lead unbelievers toward the Kingdom of God by removing intellectual barriers and linking apologetics with evangelism; strengthening believers by showing faith is grounded in truth and equipping the church to be salt and light; and impacting culture by bringing the biblical worldview into influential institutions so Christianity is taken seriously in the marketplace of ideas. The episode emphasises the goal is not to win arguments but to point people to Christ. What is Christian Apologetics_ 5 Minute Apologetics with Dr Thomas Fretwell apologetics faith

What Is Christian Apologetics? Biblical Defence of Faith (1 Peter 3:15) | Five Minute Apologetics Dr Thomas Fretwell explains that Christian apologetics is not apologising for Christianity or merely winning debates, but giving a reasoned defence (Greek: apologia) of the hope of the gospel, rooted in 1 Peter 3:15 and carried out with gentleness and reverence. He shows how apologetics appears throughout the New Testament in the ministries of Peter, Paul, and Stephen, and in letters written to correct false teachings such as Galatians and Colossians. He surveys key historical defenders including Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, and Augustine, then outlines major approaches—classical, evidential, presuppositional, and reformed epistemology—while stressing apologetics is truthful and gracious, removes intellectual obstacles, and depends on God to change hearts because truth matters. Archbishop of Canterbury Rescinds Award to Pakistani Imam - But No Apology!

Archbishop of Canterbury Rescinds Award to Pakistan Imam: Interfaith Agenda or Damage Control? Thomas Fretwell reports that the Archbishop of Canterbury has rescinded an honorary award to Imam Ashrafi, head of Pakistan’s Ulema Council, about ten hours after public backlash, following the emergence of his past “questionable” statements. He reads Lambeth Palace’s statement affirming interfaith engagement while withdrawing the award and praying for Christians in Pakistan. Fretwell argues the reversal is damage control rather than genuine repentance, noting the absence of any apology and questioning why the award was given on the anniversary of September 11, especially to a cleric who had previously praised Osama bin Laden. He concludes by quoting 19th-century Anglican bishop J.C. Ryle’s critique of “jellyfish Christianity” to rebuke what he sees as the Church of England’s spinelessness, and calls viewers to pray and repent.

Archbishop Awards Islamic Cleric: What Happened to the Church of England?

Church of England vs Islam: Archbishop of Canterbury Honours Pakistan Ulema Council Leader—A Wake-Up Call Dr Thomas Fretwell critiques the Archbishop of Canterbury for presenting an interfaith “reconciliation” award to Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi of the Pakistan Ulema Council, calling it symbolic of the Church of England’s leadership failure and dangerous naivety toward Islam. He argues the church is betraying persecuted Christians by honouring a figure he says supported Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and praised Osama bin Laden and suicide bombers, citing an Open Doors report on intimidation, mob violence, and abuse faced by Christians in Pakistan. Fretwell insists the church’s mission is gospel proclamation and discipleship, not civic awards, and urges repentance, renewed biblical fidelity, spiritual discernment, and prayer, warning the Church of England with passages from 1 John, Ephesians, and Revelation’s message to Sardis.
