    Eurovision

    This week’s theme EUROVISION includes songs that have won or been in the semi-finals of the competition. The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) was first held in 1956 in Switzerland. 70 contests have been held since then with 1,789 songs representing 52 countries. According to the Guinness World Records the ESC is the longest-running annual international televised music competition in the world. Australia has been represented 11 times since first taking part in 2015.     Styles of Dances

    For this week’s STYLES of DANCES we have incorporated songs which represent a particular dance form. Some dances are meant to be performed individually or partnered while others can be executed in groups. Popular partnered dances include the Cuban Cha Cha Cha, the Brazilian Bossa Nova, 18th century Bavarian Waltz and the 50’s Rock and Roll. The Stomp, the Twist and the Handjive are individualistic dances a s is the Hucklebuck. A popular group dance craze in the 70’s was the Nutbush and the ancient native Hula can be performed individually or with a group.     Automobiles

    Today’s songs revolve around automobiles: cars. Starting with Aussie singer Ted Mulry and his popular seventies hit Jump In My Car and followed by soul singer Wilson Pickett and Mustang Sally. Two teen tragic songs about car crashes are Tell Laura I Love Her by Ray Peterson and the number I hit for Mark Dinning Teen Angel. The Beatles chime in with Drive My Car while the aptly named group The Cars perform their big eighties hit Drive. An unusual take on the theme is our own Bobby And Laurie’s excellent cover of Hitch Hiker. The program concludes with icon Janis Joplin and her Mercedes Benz.  Enjoy today’s fabulous show, Automobiles.     French Words

    A popular trend among the 60’s pop and rock musicians was to add some French language to songs believing that it would create a touch of continental flair. The playlist this week FRENCH WORDS includes songs that have incorporated some sound of French. Stevie Wonder, ABBA, Ames Brothers, Fontane Sisters and Australian Jigsaw have French titled songs while Plastic Bertrand and Eartha Kitt deliver their popular songs entirely in French. The Electric Light Orchestra, the Beatles and Donovan have included French verses and Labelle’s and Chuck Berry’s songs contain French sentences.     Fool

    Fool There are a surprising number of songs with ‘Fool’ in the title.
