News: On March 22, a beloved character from down under will debut a new show at Disneyland. “Bluey’s Best Day Ever!” at the Fantasyland Theatre will celebrate the heart and humor of Bluey. The theater will be transformed into Bluey’s school where Bluey and Bingo will appear on stage at set times throughout the day, with two unique shows. A group of comedic performers and musicians will join them to bring to life popular board games, music, and dances. Chattermax, Unicorse, and a troupe of Grannies will also make appearances. There will also be a life-sized Gnome Village and Fairy Garden with interactive areas. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/bluey-at-disneyland-resort/ Magic Key Holders will have a new way to enjoy the resort with the Magic Key Road Trip pit stop scavenger hunt to celebrate Disney California Adventure’s 25th anniversary. Key holders will pick up a special map at Kingswell Camera Shop on Buena Vista Street and use it to complete the hunt. After the hunt is completed, collect a prize later in April. Check the Magic Key Portal in the Disneyland App for all the details. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/california-adventure-25-scavenger-hunt/ Continuing this Road Trip theme, Magic Key holders will also want to keep an eye out in their mailboxes for a complimentary gift coming soon. An exclusive set of car air fresheners inspired by attractions and experiences from Disney California Adventure! Each mailer will include three themed air fresheners, with a citrus smell for Grizzly Peak and Soarin’, new car smell for Cars Land and Radiator Springs Racers, and Sakura for San Fransokyo Square. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/magic-key-road-trip-2026-air-fresheners/ Ever since Josh Gad was made a Disney Legend and he shared not getting to be a cast member for the Jungle Cruise, it seems like Disney has been trying to make up for this. So far, he has been a Jungle Cruise Skipper, a Disneyland Railroad Conductor, a Haunted Mansion cast member, and more. This time, he is taking guests on a journey through Storybook Land Canal Boats. This time, he doesn’t know the script and snuck onto the boat to entertain guests. Check out the link in our show notes to watch all the chaos. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/gad-in-storybook-land/ The Disneyland Resort just held an event to celebrate cast members with service of 10 years or more. Jan Fleener and Richard Ruiz were in attendance, celebrating 55 years of service at the resort! The two were celebrated by being driven down the Performance Corridor in the Five and Dime classic car. Cast members are invited to these events starting at their 10th anniversary, then every 5 years of service after. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-cast-service-celebration-2025/ Actress Jennifer Garner has a baby food brand called Once Upon a Farm that is now available for purchase at Disney California Adventure. Guests can pick some up at Fillmore’s Taste-In in Cars Land. The food features cold-pressed pouches and plant-rich meals for babies, toddlers, and big kids. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/once-upon-a-farm-at-disney-california-adventure/ Two unfortunate events occurred at the Disneyland Resort this week. The first was a hazmat situation backstage near Star Tours that resulted in cast members being transported to the hospital out of caution. Nobody was seriously injured and it was limited to backstage. Anaheim Police were summoned to the resort in a Swatting Incident that claimed a mass shooting event at the resort. A swatting is where someone calls in a serious call to 911 that turns out to be a prank, even though police, and sometimes SWAT teams are sent. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-swatting/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-hazmat-incident-star-tours-backstage/ SnackChat: Bluey-themed bites – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-bluey-food-beverage-at-disneyland-resort/ Discussion Topic: History of Fireworks – https://www.micechat.com/335190-disneyland-fireworks-history-all-shows/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On Main Street, USA, scrim and scaffold are up from Carnation Cafe to Refreshment Corner. With the high winds, the scrim was rolled up and a sign for Carnation Company from 1955 was revealed. It appears that the current sign was covering the historic piece of Disneyland history all these years. – https://www.micechat.com/432664-disneyland-update-costly-cutbacks-food-fumbles-after-dark-disappointment/](https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/vintage-carnation-cafe-signage/) https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/vintage-carnation-cafe-signage/ With the Food & Wine Festival in full swing, there is some new merch to be had. They were almost as iconic as the candy canes, with being offered on certain days and through mobile order only. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/03/08/devastating-dessert-news-disneyland-fudge-easter-eggs-missing-for-second-year/ SnackChat: Disneyland Hotel – The Coffee House – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disneyland-hotel/coffee-house/menus/ Discussion Topic: Discovery Bay – https://mouseplanet.com/discovering-discovery-bay/8122/ https://societyofexplorersandadventurers.fandom.com/wiki/Discovery_Bay Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. 4. More with Philander

    FEB 25

    More with Philander

This week, strategy session with the Disneyland President shed some light on upcoming changes, for better, and some worse, new collectables are coming soon to celebrate the 70th, changes to the Disneyland App to help locate merchandise, we continue our talk with Philander, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: The President of the Disneyland Resort Thomas Mazloum held some strategy sessions with outlets like MiceChat about upcoming changes and what is going on around the resort. This was an opportunity to talk directly to the fan base about decisions, and give a glimpse of what is coming. One of the items was the reservation system at Disneyland. It is not going anywhere for the moment as it helps the resort better manage attendance patterns and staffing. However, the 11am park hopping restriction will be going away soon. Also, Monsters, Inc.: Mike and Sully to the Rescue is delaying closing until sometime next year. – https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ Moving away from the news to the philosophy that Thomas brings to the resort. A visit to the resort has become expensive, and, at times, overly complex. His team is working on ways to simplify the experience, and make visiting less expensive, especially for young families. Ride reliability is also being addressed. Maintenance windows are expanding, work is being made on supply chains, and downtime is being examined and addressed. They calculated that 1.5 million more ride experiences happened because of these changes. – https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ Cast members were also discussed at the sessions. About 60% of the current cast was hired after the 2020 closures. Training was shortened, Traditions, the training session for new cast, was also simplified and made partially virtual. Focus was on safety protocols and hiring quickly, and not as much on guest relations. Thomas is working to correct this and expanding training again. Leadership is going through retraining, identifying issues and clarifying expectations. This is resulting in the culture being rebuilt, but it will take time. – https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ Entertainment was also discussed. Thomas supports Fantasmic!, but did not commit to restoring Murphy. No further plans on the future of the Hyperion, Golden Horseshoe, Fantasyland Theatre, or any other entertainment was discussed. What could throw a wrench into all of this is Josh D’Amaro moving up to CEO, leaving the parks chair position vacant. Thomas might be a good candidate to fill that, which means Disneyland could be getting another leader soon. – https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ A new way to celebrate Disneyland and have some new collectable keepsakes is coming on February 26th. The Topps Disneyland 70th Anniversary Collection will feature attractions, characters, food, and more into collectable cards. A limited group of cards will only be available at Disneyland and online at DisneyStore.com. There are rare relic cards that have pieces of vintage Disneyland tickets, Disney Dollars, pieces of cast member costumes, and more. There are also Talent Autograph cards featuring autographs from voice talent, and other well-known faces and voices of attractions. There is a rare 1 of 1 card that can be redeemed for a Disneyland prize package. – https://disneyparksblog.com/products/new-topps-disneyland-70th-anniversary-trading-cards/ Using the Disneyland App to locate and purchase merchandise, and mobile order food is getting more features. Guests can now use the “find merchandise” feature to look for Lunar New Year items. The feature will show what locations have certain items in stock, without having to visit each location and look. There is also a test happening at the Golden Horseshoe where Stage Door Cafe is mobile order only, and the Golden Horseshoe bar inside is standby only. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/02/18/this-new-disneyland-app-feature-could-change-everything/#more-1107042 https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ The old FastPass distribution area across from Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! has a new permit filed, giving some indication of what is happening there. The permit is asking for a “change of use” from a shade structure to an outdoor eating area with new joists and electrical. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/02/21/disneyland-officially-demolishes-fastpass-structure-and-were-still-crying/#more-1107900 SnackChat: Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival Foodie Guide – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-disney-california-adventure-food-and-wine-festival-foodie-guide-2026/ Discussion Topic: Epic Universe with theme park fan and Disney Cast Member Philander Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The extended walls are necessary for the construction work going on, but causing crowd control issues at peak times. Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons is adding the Haunted Mansion courtyard to the other great locations around the Disneyland Resort. There is Jon Hale, who is known for riding Radiator Springs Racers over 15,000 times, Peter, known for his clapping and fist bumping other guests, and, of course, Frank. Frank was known for sitting on the porch on Main Street and people watching. We met him a few years ago at that spot. Unfortunately, Frank passed away back in August, but the “New Century Historical Society” has honed him with a plaque on the bench that reads “Every day is my best day.” This was one of Frank’s mantras. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-frank-the-porch-potato-bench-plaque/ Most folks know about the Disney Visa Card from Chase that offers you cash back on everyday purchases, as well as Disney money you can spend in the parks and more. Mike and Sully to the Rescue turned 20! Cast members had a small number of buttons to give out if asked. The buttons featured Roz with party decorations flying around, with some scream canisters and a “20 Years of Scares” banner. The attraction won’t be around for another 20 though, as it is set to close this year to make way for the upcoming Avatar experience. - https://www.micechat.com/430352-disneyland-update-lunar-lights-sweethearts-nite-construction-heights/ Last week also marked the first Sweethearts Nite of the season. This year, the checkin was back in Frontierland at the entrance to Galaxy’s Edge where guests could pick up their lanyard, map, and pack of Dove chocolates for the event. Some of the themed photo areas this time were the rooftops of Paris for the Aristocats, the balcony from Aladdin, a Toontown picnic, and the “Kiss the Girl” scene from The Little Mermaid. Some uncommon characters were also around like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit with Ortensia, Princess Kida and Milo Thatch from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and The Country Bears offering Bear Hugs. The new Celebrate Love Cavalcade, and Once Upon A Dream show were fun additions to the after dark event. - https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-after-dark-sweethearts-nite-2026/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-after-dark-sweethearts-nite-characters/ Downtown Disney is continuing to be a bustling area full of construction. Porto’s Bakery & Cafe is coming along as the demolition of the former Earl of Sandwich location is moving along. The old building should be completely cleared soon. Gordon Ramsay visited the resort to check on the progress of Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby, which will be located upstairs from the new Earl of Sandwich. The sign for this location has been revealed already, with rumors that soft openings could happen in the next couple of months. - https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/portos-bakery-construction-update-downtown-disneyland-resort/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/gordan-ramsay-visits-disneyland-resort-the-carnaby/ For our book club read this time, we will be diving into Groundbreaking Magic: A Black Woman’s Journey Through the Happiest Place on Earth.
