Capturing Bigfoot Review: The Patterson-Gimlin Film, Alleged Rehearsal Footage & the Bigfoot Hoax Controversy

Nearly sixty years after Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin filmed what would become the most famous piece of Bigfoot footage in history, a new documentary claims to have uncovered evidence that could finally settle the debate. Released on October 20, 2026, Capturing Bigfoot introduces a mysterious 16mm film reel allegedly dating to 1966, one year before the Patterson-Gimlin film was shot at Bluff Creek, California.  According to the documentary, the footage may show a dress rehearsal for what would become one of the most controversial films in cryptozoology. But does this newly surfaced footage actually prove that the Patterson-Gimlin film was a hoax? Or does the documentary rely on speculation, questionable assumptions, and an incomplete chain of custody to make its case? In this episode of the NVUS Alien Podcast, Heather Woodward delivers a spoiler-filled, scene-by-scene reaction to Capturing Bigfoot, examining the documentary's central claims, the evidence presented, and the conclusions viewers are encouraged to draw. Rather than accepting the film's narrative at face value, Heather takes a closer look at the people involved, the history of the Patterson-Gimlin controversy, and the unanswered questions surrounding the alleged rehearsal footage. Black Dahlia Part 3: Seven Years Later, I Read the Black Dahlia Case Again

In Part 3 of the Black Dahlia deep dive, Heather finishes the forensic analysis of her original 2019 psychic reading and follows several unexpected threads that emerged during the research. This episode digs into Elizabeth Short’s Hollywood circle, including Anne Toth, Mark Hansen, Maurice Clement, Dr. Patrick O’Reilly, and the explosive Brenda Allen scandal that exposed corruption inside the LAPD. As those connections begin overlapping, the reading starts looking less like a story about one mysterious killer and more like a glimpse into the complicated social world surrounding Elizabeth before her death. Heather also confronts the parts of the original reading that simply don’t hold up, separates possible psychic hits from information that may have been influenced by existing Black Dahlia mythology, and explores one of the strangest recurring patterns: a younger man Elizabeth trusted, another woman, and the possibility that more than one person was involved in her, death Finally, Heather conducts a new tarot reading in 2026, six years after the original. Despite approaching the case with years of distance and new historical information, several of the same themes appear again: a trusted romantic connection, multiple people, a woman who may have played a significant role, and the persistent sense that the person responsible for Elizabeth’s death may not have been the same person responsible for what happened to her body afterward. Seven years after the first reading, the Black Dahlia case somehow leaves us with even more questions than when we started.
