    Get a job in tech when you're not a tech person

    Emily Dreyfuss wanted to be two things when she was younger: an actress and a poet. Today, she is on TV quite a bit...not acting in a drama, but as an occasional expert on cable news (though some could argue cable news has as many twists and turns as a Shonda Rhymes show)! But Dreyfuss spends most of her time writing. Not poetry, though her work is so beautiful the lines read like carefully crafted stanzas. Dreyfuss writes articles on culture and tech. As a senior writer at Wired Magazine, Dreyfuss has had to battle her share of trolls, but they've never stop her from being her authentic self, pursuing her career, and starting a family.

    Is ClassPass worth it? It was for one 30 something!

    When her first idea didn’t work out, Mary Biggins pushed on. That’s her personality. She’s a problem solver, a go getter. Call her, “Boston Strong,” if you will. Today, she is CoFounder of two successful companies, ClassPass and MealPal. ClassPass is in 49 Cities worldwide. The app connects users to fitness classes at a much lower cost than buying classes directly from studios. At last check, ClassPass has raised more than $450 million dollars with millions of classes booked through the app to date. MealPal works similarly. For a price of about $5.99 per meal, users can get lunch from participating restaurants near their work area.     Can a career woman find love?

    I know I said we would be releasing new episodes every other week, I wanted to sneak in another episode in honor of Valentine's Day. As a hopeless romantic, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I wanted to know what the heck would attract someone to a BOSS, an ambitious person? Is it difficult to marry someone who is so dedicated to their career? Is it intimidating?     Start a tech company before age 30

    I see it, I want it I stunt, yellow bone it I dream it, I work hard I grind 'til I own it I twirl on them haters - "Formation," Beyonce Beyonce gets noticed, she drops surprise albums and videos...Instagram posts letting the world know she is the most beautiful pregnant woman ever! Our guest this week, Melissa James gets noticed too. Her goal: Become the Beyonce of Tech. Melissa left a job at Google to start her own company. Today she is CEO of the Tech Connection, a company that connects diverse talent to tech companies. We’ve mentioned tech’s diversity problem before.At Google and Facebook, for example, only 1% of employees are Black, while Black people make up nearly 13% of the population.Only 16% of techies are women and women make up half of the population. Melissa’s work to increase diversity in tech has earned her a US Presidential Service award from then President Obama, and a young alumni service award from her alma mater, University of Massachusetts Amherst. Melissa was named Boston Innovation Magazine’s 50 on Fire, and also a published author. Her first book, "When are you going to get a Real Career?”is available on itunes.
