On-Air with Sam Schorsch: The Writing Game

This episode of the podcast welcomes our friend and fellow Editor for Motley Sam Schorsch onto the scene! Our conversation today covers the pressing issues all young writers face in freelance work, not the least of which is how to balance creative needs with the expectations of the market. As another artist staking her art on her livelihood, and her livelihood on her art, Sam gives us a vivid look into the nuances of production as an up-and- coming writer in a world that largely does not recognize creative expression as valid human activity.

On-Air with Andy Warren Jepson: In Pursuit of Balance

This episode features an interview with the artist and musician Andy Warren Jepson from nearby Racine, Wisconsin! In our discussion we work through the careful matters of balance in artistic work - both in music and in visual art. Balance is crucial to any endeavor, but especially in creative production we clearly face the challenge of meeting many different kinds of needs at once. As a basic premise of this show, we spend some good time with the idea of being in pursuit of peace, and how artistic expression is therein a profound and deeply fulfilling means of articulating one's greatest self.

On-Air with Derek Peters: The Strange Art of Podcasting

We live in a rapidly changing world, and as technologies develop so too do different opportunities for artistic expression. Radio has long been a means of communication for commercial use, but moreover has also established an enormously relevant and accessible platform for information sharing – in particular towards artistic, political, and cultural ends. This second episode of Soundboard features an interview with Derek Peters, the Podcasting Program Director at Motley. Derek has long worked in the field of radio, and as the medium of podcasting is evolving into its own standing, he is working on the front lines of the cultural transition. New media mean new forms of art, and our conversation in this episode focuses explicitly on parsing out the similarities, differences, and nuances between podcasting as an art form and radio as a medium. As always, thank you for listening. On-Air with Kelly Cunningham: Motley & the DIY Scene

No number of subscriptions to accounts on social media will satisfy the urge to write, to feel, to think for yourself. Each artist must have the “Do-It-Yourself” attitude, and no one should have to ask permission to think artistically, and to explore creatively. We should be cautious now more than ever of censorship. As Motley coalesces with our community, this first episode of Soundboard delves into the “DIY” spirit behind our creative venture. My guest is Kelly Cunningham, the Head of Operations at Motley, and our focus for this interview lands on the underlying questions that motivate projects like Motley. As always, thank you for listening.
