Lanterns Premiere and Green Lantern Corps #17 | Fantastic Forum

This week on Fantastic Forum, we’re heading into the DC Universe for a double dose of Green Lantern action, as we take a look at HBO’s highly anticipated Lanterns and one of the latest chapters of Green Lantern Corps! First up is Lanterns on HBO, starring Kyle Chandler as veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as newly recruited John Stewart. Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, the series takes the cosmic mythology of the Green Lanterns and brings it down to Earth for a mystery involving the two Lanterns and a murder investigation in rural Nebraska. With Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, the series blends superhero mythology with the feel of a grounded detective thriller. We’re breaking down the premiere, the performances, the mysteries, and what Lanterns could mean for the future of the DC Universe. Then we turn to Green Lantern Corps #17, written by Morgan Hampton, with art by Fernando Pasarin and Oclair Albert. The Manhunters are pressing their attack, and the Lanterns face an impossible challenge as they attempt to protect Ophidian. When Effigy goes supernova on the sun, transforming it into a black hole, the Lanterns must race past the event horizon to save Ophidian and prevent Oa and New Thanagar from being plunged into catastrophic ice ages. We’re talking about the escalating Emotional Spectrum storyline, Guy Gardner’s increasingly important role, and whether this issue delivers another major turning point for the Corps. This week on Fantastic Forum, we’re heading back to Gotham and returning to a DC Universe where superheroes, kingdoms, and magic collide! First up is Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 on Prime Video. Hamish Linklater returns as Batman alongside Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn, as Gotham continues to reel from the fallout of Harvey Dent’s downfall. With the Riddler, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, and a chilling new take on the Joker entering the fray, the second season expands the series’ noir-inspired vision of Gotham while pushing its characters into darker and more dangerous territory. We’re talking about the new villains, the surprising character reimaginings, and whether Caped Crusader continues to prove there’s plenty of life left in animated Batman. Then we turn to Dark Knights of Steel II #1, the return of DC’s epic medieval Elseworlds saga from writer Tom Taylor and artist Otto Schmidt, with colors by Arif Prianto and letters by Wes Abbott. An ancient and violent war is brewing beneath the waves, while a traitor hides in plain sight among the League’s own ranks. As the Houses of El and Wayne, the Kingdom of Storms, and the Amazons face a new threat, the fantasy world created by Taylor and Schmidt is heading toward its darkest days yet.
