Band Dilemma: Stick it out or Quit?

This week a listener reached out seeking advice on handling a situation where their country band unexpectedly shifts to playing a mix of tunes they are not into. Despite expressing discontent and feeling like a sidelined hired hand rather than an integral band member, the listener's concerns are dismissed by the band leader. We then discuss the importance of clear communication, aligned expectations, and practical steps for amicably leaving a band to avoid future misalignments, emphasizing the crucial balance between personal artistic satisfaction and collaborative compromise.MAESTRODMX Discount Link: https://maestrodmx.com/discount/DISCOUNT4CBC?redirect=%2Fproducts%2FmaestrodmxOr use "DISCOUNT4CBC" at checkout!Blank Contracts & Riders: https://www.coverbandconfidential.com/store/performance-contractsBacking Track Resources: https://www.coverbandconfidential.com/store/backing-track-resourcesThank you so much for tuning in!  If you want to help be sure to like, subscribe and share with your friends!  Linktree: linktr.ee/adampatrickjohnson                linktr.ee/coverbandconfidentialFollow us on Instagram!@coverbandconfidential@adampatrickjohnson@danraymusicianIf you have any questions please email at:Coverbandconfidential@gmail.comConsider supporting us on Patreon! www.patreon.com/coverbandconfidentialOr buy us a cup of coffee!paypal.me/cbconfidentialAnd for more info check out www.coverbandconfidential.com

One thing you should NEVER do as a gigging musician

One thing you should NEVER do as a gigging musician

In this episode, Adam and Dan recount their recent gigs and the lessons learned. The main focus revolves around Adam's experience playing a gig in Guntersville, Alabama, at a yacht club, which despite geographical and logistical challenges, ended up being an electrifying event filled with improvisation, unexpected song requests (hello, 'Higher' by Creed), and a solid connection with fellow musicians. The episode then shifts to a more serious tone, discussing the toxic culture of gossip within the music community and how it can negatively affect relationships and opportunities. Dan and Adam reflect on the importance of handling disagreements directly with individuals rather than engaging in behind-the-back chats. Covering all your bases

Pun intended…there is so much more to being in a cover band than just showing up and playing. Adam and Dan do a remarkable job of bringing attention to the fine details of being a professional musician in addition to being an efficient band leader as well. I particularly like when the guys revisit topics, as there is always something new to consider in this business. The conversations are real, humorous, and sometimes quite poignant. It makes you feel like you are part of the discussion with two of your friends.

Thanks for everything!

Required Listening for Cover Bands

Adam and Dan have put together a treasure trove of information about the trials and tribulations of trying to traverse the traditional cover band world.
Pay attention.
You’ll learn a ton.
My band “Catawampus” plays in The Hudson Valley of New York and we’ve learned valuable information from listening to these guys. I’ve now almost listened to all of them as I drive to and from rehearsals (not practice!) and share my insights with my fellow band mates.

Gentlemen, I’d love to hear a discussion about stage banter between song breaks such as band introductions, social networking, selling merchandise, thanking the venue and the audience, etc. What do you make sure to include and when to do them over the course of a two or three hour gig. Keep up the good work!

Great sensible discussions

Adam and Dan do a great job picking topics and discussing them. As a member of a popular Tom Petty tribute band out of Massachusetts (Petty Larceny), a lot of what they talk about is very relevant. I’d love a discussion of differences between cover and tribute bands. There are pros and cons to both. Thanks guys!
