88 episodes

A Canadian (Ryan) and a Scot (Amy) talking about the words in the English language that fascinate them most at the moment, looking at their histories and origins and trying to piece together just how they got to where they are today.

This is a podcast for anyone interested in etymology (the study of words and their origins/history). If you've ever found yourself happier after discovering some bizarre bit of trivia about a word that you hadn't even given a second thought to (such as how the word 'trivia' relates to its Latin components meaning "three roads"), this might just be the podcast for you.

A fascinating ride

Amy and Ryan never fail to entertain. They are huge owrd nerds and they take you along on their wonderful journey of the history of two words per episode. I personally get a bit of a kick any time they break out the ancient tome of synonyms or good old Roget. You will come away with a better understanding of the English language and a good dose of PIE words as well. Always a good time. ~Sandman

I just love this show so much!

The hosts are charming, the words are interesting and their depth of knowledge and preparatory work is palpable and appreciated. I always await a new episode with bated breath.
