Hattie McDaniel: Winning and Losing
When Gone with the Wind was released, critics were flabbergasted by the willing participation from black actors to be in the film. Hattie McDaniel was at the center of this controversy. She really wanted the part, but she couldn’t foresee, or, maybe she just didn’t care, about the backlash.

Beautifully researched
My favorite podcast lovingly researched and produced. I really hope there are more episodes coming soon
PLEASE KEEP MAKING PODCASTS!
I just discovered this series and gobbled it up. I absolutely love this podcast, and it makes me SO proud to be a Latina. I look forward to more, also your new sonic podcast releases are a great pivot. Keep going girl, we’re listening!
Everyone, we need more podcasts like this, tell your girls, tell your sisters, your mami, your tias!
Simply amazing
I’m very picky about the content I listen too: it has to be educational, not simply entertaining, have a well-crafted story and well-narrated. This podcast has it all. It touches upon the topics that even a well-educated person may not have come across simply because, as the author points out, history often leaves the stories of the minorities untold. Season 1 was such an insightful glance into the history, the social context and the enigmatic personalities of Las Reinas of Los Angeles. The amount of research that went into crafting these episodes is amazing, I feel like I just took an semester-long course at a liberal arts college. Thank you, Diana, for bringing these stories to life!
