The Movie Movie Podcast with Mike and Brian

The Movie Movie Podcast with Mike and Brian should be self explanatory, but we couldn't come up with a title that was clear enough to be considered self explanatory. Thinking up titles is hard. You try it? What did you come up with? Bet it wasn't that good. Probably not as good as "The Movie Movie Podcast", right? That right there took us weeks! Join Michael Gutierrez and Brian Bernard Murnane on a quest of synergy in a world of tangents, unbearably bad impersonations, and half remembered apocryphal film truths. Taking two personalized random list of movies, and placing them side by side, Mike and Brian whittle the list down every week, watching a double feature after double feature of two unlikely bedfellows. Journey along as they try to apple and orange the films that should never be compared together, and find a level on which they meet.

Episode 13: Don't Call It A Comeback - Dear White People & The Buttercream Gang

Oh boy! Look at the time. Apparently it's been 8 long, hard months since a new episode was published. In the podcast world that's as good as being canceled, or being Serial. Can we be Serial? Who do I contact to be Serial? Look. Blame Brian, who will probably blame his own mental health for why this wonderful podcast has been on hiatus for so long. In fact, we recorded this, and the next couple of episodes that long ago. And God bless Mike, he hasn't even bugged Brian about it. He's just been chugging away in the LA comedy scene. He's even on a prominent sketch team, but you'll have to ask him about that. Anyway, we're back. I think. I'm pretty sure. And we have a couple episodes in the can, and then a slew of brand new episodes, actually recorded in 2019, with actual, quality equipment (part of the delay. Brian is a perfectionist like that). And we should be on course for at least the next 6 months. So, maybe this is the reboot? Not really. The relaunch kicks off with Justin Simiens, 2014 meditation, deconstruction, and satirical look at class, race, and identity in "Dear White People". Unfortunately, as the chips fall, it was paired up with Bruce Neibaur's, 1992 straight to video, religious propaganda film about non-violent protest, and delicious treats , "The Butter Cream Gang". Once the abject confusion, and hilarity of "The Butter Cream Gang" wears off, Mike and Brian decipher both films messages of conformity, and individuality. When do you stand up for yourself, and when do you stand down? Do all indie movies suffer from the same tropes? Plus: An out of context Star Trek discussion. Pontifications on streaming media. Mike eats a Slim Jim. Brian does a grating, out of context, impersonation through the whole thing. We're back babies!
