Being a child of the 80s and angst teen of the 90s, when I come across a particular “something” that I find to be “well-made” and that “piques my interest,” I will attach a premium on that “thing,” if its additionally the case that said “thing” is not already mainstream, (ie it’s not plastered all over the internet or the subject of conversations everywhere) - the “diamond in the ruff” or “shining pearl amongst an endless sea of empty oysters.” (And yes I’m over using air quotes). It’s a thrill to discover something that is not only awesome, but awesome and as of yet mostly unknown as such by the larger world. Like sleater Kinney before they were on the cover of seventeen magazine and branded as “sell outs” to my obnoxious teenage self -( “what’s my shirt? Oh, it’s a band I’m into you prolly don’t know them...”. )The self satisfaction of being among the first few to have caught the “what’s cool” curveball before anyone else knew it was coming. Something like that, I’m bad at analogy. Similitude? The point is: this podcast f-ing rules, it rules like in the way I almost want to keep it a secret. But I’m not a teenager anymore (to the relief of my parents and the parents of other teenagers I was an insane youth with) and so I don’t want to be alone or in a group of a select few in on this awesome discovery- I want the masses to talk with me about it. Sharing is caring, I get that at 40. And so I want to give this podcast my enthusiastic endorsement and recommend it to all who love book talk and author inside interviews. It’s like having a really engaging chat with pals - really smart and thoughtful and engaging pals. Did I mention they are engaging? Oh words. Also the authors? Sigh. I don’t see how this isn’t all over the Apple podcasts or sticher main pages already- tho I have no doubt it will be sometime soon. And when that day inevitably comes, I’ll be there, smug and self congratulatory, for being among the first to recognize its awesomeness. A true fan. An og. 🙂.
