Ep. 66 - Can a Woman Play 007? Can Scarlett Johansson Play Trans?

Ep. 66 - Can a Woman Play 007? Can Scarlett Johansson Play Trans?

Lashana Lynch is rumored to assume the role of 007 in the upcoming James Bond film which should be the finale of the Daniel Craig run of bond flicks. As always, the internet freaked out, however it's not likely that she'll replace James Bond in any way shape or form.

Additionally, Scarlett Johansson is under fire (again) after stepping away from a role in which she was set to play a trans man. After enough heat on social media one of the most famous female actors in the world turned down what might have been an iconic role. Now the movie is shelved and no one will see it as a result. What's worse, no one seeing a film that could introduce millions to a trans experience or having one of the most famous people in the world play a trans character even though they themselves don't know the trans experience?

Ep. 65 - Paul Walter Hauser (I, Tonya + BlacKkKlansman + Cobra Kai)

Paul Walter Hauser is an actor known best for his roles in "I, Tonya", "BlacKkKlansman", "Cobra Kai" and the upcoming Clint Eastwood directed "Richard Jewel". Paul is currently filming in Atlanta and took time to sit down with me at Ormsby's to talk movies. In his upcoming upcoming role he plays Richard Jewel, a man famous for having saved people from the Atlanta Olympics bombing, but was then labeled as the prime suspect by the FBI and Main Stream Media. He acts alongside Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde and you can expect to see "Richard Jewel" in theaters later this year.

Ep. 64 - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Immediately after a screening of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Dustin and I sat down for a Live Stream on the main Flick Connection YouTube channel. This is that Live Stream.

It contains mild spoilers but not before our initial thoughts and a traditional Once Upon a Time in Hollywood no spoiler review.

Ep. 63 - "The Raid" Remake w/ Screenwriter Adam G. Simon

Adam G. Simon is a screenwriter most known for the Netflix Original Movie Point Blank and for his first feature film "Man Down". He has written the script for the American remake of The Raid, starring Frank Grillo and to be directed by Joe Carnahan.

In this episode Adam takes me through the aftermath of creating a "remake" like Point Blank, what we can expect from The Raid remake and then we both dive deep into what works and doesn't work about modern movies and storytelling.

Worth the sub

This is an excellent show. Darren pretty clearly knows his subject matter. I stumbled upon his main YouTube channel (which is also worth a look) and the podcast from there. I don't even consider myself a "movie buff," but I got so much value out of his recommendations - and entertainment to go with it - that I quickly started consuming his back catalogue. Would recommend the same for everyone.

A Time Saver

The Podcast is a Great way to narrow your choices on the streaming services. Darren gives short recaps of the movies and adds movies clips on the YouTube Channel.
