Episode 41: Dr Benjamin Brush - Neurologist
Ben Brush is interested in just about everything, just like me, except that he's got the bona fides to back it up. Having worked in research labs on brain machine interfaces and then spent the last 10 years between Harvard Medical School, Mass General Brigham, and NYU hospitals becoming a board-certified Neurologist. Oh and he's also hiked all 2184 miles of the Appalachian Trail solo in 135 days. I have so many questions.

Episode 40: Chris Molanphy Returns - Chart Analyst / Pop Critic
Back for his second episode. Slate magazine's resident rock critic & chart analyst Chris Molanphy chats with me about the definition of a "Smash", why the demographics of the artists on the charts have changed over time, and how much he hates most Diane Warren penned songs. Always great to talk to Chris.

Episode 39: Sandi Robertson - Art Teacher
The rare Skype episode of Pals with art teacher Sandi Robertson from the UK. We discuss Sandi's deep love of the color darkroom, her early beginnings as a young artist in Scotland, and her belief that a student's understanding of photography is as vital as maths and sciences.

Pals with Bill
1. Bill does seem to have interesting friends.
2. Don’t be scared off by the “pals” thing. These aren’t chummy backslapping conversations between the “cool kids.” They know each other, sure, but there’s not really any “inside” talk to speak of that would alienate the audience.
3. Bill is a generous conversationalist and enough of an autodidact that he can ask relevant and probing questions of people in wide ranging fields and allows enough of himself into the conversation to draw out the other person without making it all about him. Everything comes back to the commonalities of creating or the small “a” artistic process, regardless of the profession.
4. And everything is creating. Finding out that sometimes film editing mistakes are intentionally made in view of the greater vision was fascinating. And when I googled Michael Malice before listening I was like “uh, no” but by the end of the interview I may not have agreed with a lot of things, but I was won over. Museum curation, dance. I imagine if bill interviewed a hedge fund billionaire he’d manage to draw out their humanity and self doubt.
Kristen Gaylord, Museum Curator
Great interview with Kristen Gaylord about what is involved with curating a retrospective exhibit. I look forward to seeing exhibits she is involved in curating at The Amon Carter Museum of American Art which I visit frequently.
