    People Who Lost Control - Ep 26-357

    Something has changed in America, and I do not mean the climate. Although somewhere at CNN, a panel of twelve people is blaming the weather on Donald Trump’s golf swing. I mean the people who used to control the national story are losing control of the story. The media used to decide what mattered, Democrats decided what you were allowed to call it, and the permanent political class decided what would happen no matter how you voted. That was the arrangement. You could participate in democracy as long as you understood that the adults in Washington had already filled out your ballot in pencil. But now the referees are getting thrown out of the stadium. CNN, MS NOW, and Politico have been barred from the White House grounds. CNN says it will continue covering the administration from outside. And I love that. CNN is now reporting on the White House the way a raccoon reports on a restaurant: pressed against the back window, furious that somebody locked the dumpster. They say they will not be deterred. Deterred from what? For years, these outlets could stand twenty feet from the president and still miss the story by three time zones. Now they are outside the fence, which may actually improve their accuracy. At least from there, when they invent the news, they cannot blame the White House lighting. And this is bigger than a press-pass fight. This entire show is about a political class discovering that its credentials no longer guarantee control. The media credential. The party credential. The nonprofit credential. The prosecutor’s badge. The judge’s robe. The famous family name carved into a government building. Americans were told all of those symbols represented authority. Increasingly, they represent immunity—immunity from being questioned, immunity from producing results, and immunity from admitting failure. Today we are going to test all of it. We are going to Greenland, where the man the Left called Putin’s puppet just helped block Russia and China from gaining a strategic foothold. We are going to New York, where a socialist congressional candidate seems eager to carry Mexico’s historic fight into the United States Congress. We are going to the Kennedy Center, where an institution named for Democrat royalty is facing a very unglamorous collision with money, maintenance, and Trump. Then, in Hour Two, we get to the machinery underneath the show: elections that are barely competitive, tax-exempt organizations that may have confused charity with political warfare, prosecutors who will not prosecute, and judges who appear to believe the law is a menu—order what you like and send the rest back to the kitchen.     Something is happening. Not one isolated incident. Not one election. Not one country. Something broader—a series of cultural collisions occurring at roughly the same moment. In Dearborn, video circulated showing a group of Black men confronting a Muslim community representative after Arab men allegedly menaced a Black woman, stole her purse, and damaged her car. The men didn’t arrive with diversity consultants. There was no PowerPoint presentation titled Building Bridges Through Intentional Listening. Nobody passed around a talking stick. Their point was unmistakable: Black people were not going to be intimidated, displaced, or instructed to accept disrespect in the name of somebody else’s culture. But this may be about more than defending one woman. This could expose a fault line inside the Left’s political coalition. For decades, Democrats have treated Black Americans, Muslims, immigrants, feminists, Hispanics, Asians, and practically every other designated minority as members of one permanent political family. They call it a coalition. But sometimes a coalition is just several people sharing an Uber until they discover they’re going to different addresses. I wrote in Sexy Brilliance that Muslim political organizations would adopt tactics pioneered by Black Leftist activists: organize around identity, claim institutional mistreatment, consolidate voting power, demand accommodations, and convert demographic influence into political authority.     Political Gravity - Ep 26-354

    There are two kinds of people in politics. People who think they're creating gravity, and people who discover they're merely orbiting somebody else's planet. That's become one of the most fascinating political phenomena of the modern era. Donald Trump has created a strange condition in politics where otherwise intelligent people begin confusing proximity to power with ownership of power. No crazy Leftist issue stands alone. In a weird way, all their idiocy is interconnected. They're symptoms of a broader worldview. Look at foreign policy. The same movement that warns endlessly about threats to democracy often seems oddly reluctant to confront regimes that actually suppress democracy. Iran gets nuance. China gets nuance. Hostile governments get nuance. American citizens who disagree politically get investigations. That's a curious set of priorities. Then there's the military. Historically, armies existed to win wars. Simple concept. Not complicated. You train fighters. You develop strategy. You project strength. You defeat enemies. Yet increasingly, our military appears expected to function as a graduate seminar with camouflage. Diversity metrics. Sensitivity training. Identity initiatives. Social theories.
