    Break The Spirit of Ganab

Breaking the Spirit of Ganab August 2, 2026 Elwyn Johnston Exodus 20:15 Verse of the Week: “He who stole must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to give to him who has need.” Eph. 4:28 What does this commandment mean? “You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him.” Leviticus 19:13 “rob” - gazal – to take by force “ganab” - “secretly taking something that isn’t yours” “The city shall be accursed, it and all that is in it belongs to the Lord” Joshua 6:17 “as for you, only keep yourselves from the accursed things [the spoils of war], lest you make yourselves accursed” Joshua 6:18 “But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan…took of the accursed thing” Joshua 7:1 “accursed” – cherem – devoted thing We ganab when we… Take so we can get without giving Take credit for someone else’s work or ideas Take without paying Take from our employer We ganab because there is… A lack of trust in God “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5 & 6 “lean” – shaan – to support one’s self A lack of contentment “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have. Don't Wreck The House

DON'T WRECK THE HOUSE Exodus 20:14 1. God Built the House “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Ge 2:24 NKJV “Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NLT 2. Culture Wars Against the House “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery'; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Ma 5:27 – 28 NASB “So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator Himself” Rm 1:24 – 25 NLT 3. The Damage is Real “In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men...” 2 Samuel 11:1 “Have mercy, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to Your abundant mercy, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me” Ps 51:1 – 3 ESV “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit.” Ps 51:10 – 12 ESV 4. God Restores Broken Houses “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten” Joel 2:25 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers....will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Co 6:9 - 11 “And the one sitting on the throne said, 'Look, I am making everything new! ‘” Rev 21:5 NLT

    The Gift We Keep Returning

The Gift We Keep Returning June 28, 2026 Elwyn Johnston Exodus 20:8 - 11 Verse of the Week: “Keep the sabbath day” Deuteronomy 5:12 1. Sabbath is not simply a rule. Sabbath is not simply a reward. It must be our reality. “On that day no one in your household may do any work.
