Discord and Rhyme: An Album Podcast

First off, this is hands down my favorite music podcast and the only non political podcast I listen to regularly which makes it a good palette cleanser. However, I think the show is best when the core crew is covering episodes. The guest hosts on the whole don't really add much (except for Amanda's husband he's pretty cool). When I was listening to the Automatic for the People episode though, I took an instant disliking to Jeff Blehar. He was so smug and completely talked over all the other hosts. Then I look him up and find out that he is a MAGA zionist that writes some truly despicable trash for National Review. I don't know how these guys could do a whole episode about how sad they were about the 2024 election but then platform somebody who is part of the political machine that got Trump elected. There's a difference between having someone on who happens to be conservative, and having someone on whose literal job is peddling far right propaganda. Still, the podcast gets 5 stars because he's not on every episode and this is still a great independent podcast with a lot of heart and soul put into it. But please, leave Jeff Blehar in the dust that dude sucks.

I want to like this more but they have a few annoying habits, maybe none moreso than singing along over top of the song snippets. Not helpful if you’re trying to get exposure to a new artist. I may throw in the towel on this one.

I was looking for some thoughtful takes on Curtis Mayfield, and that’s how I found this pod. I could not believe how perfect that episode was for what I was looking for. I cannot wait to binge this series. The guys are funny, organized, well spoken, not prone to annoying interruptions or cross talk. And they take their time and analyze every track.

A friend turned me onto the show about half a year ago at this point as he knew I was big in Pink Floyd’s pre dark side era, specifically Atom Heart Mother, he directed me to the Meddle episode and I was hooked on the show. And since then I’ve become a casual listener of The Moody Blues (Days of Future Passed thats about it), to definitely a fan of the band from this show as well. Their love for that band was quite infectious and let’s say I’ve now heard all of the “Core Seven” albums (and still rank Days of Future Passed as their best with To Our Children’s Children’s Children right behind it and In Search of the Lost Chord the number 3 spot). Anyway with a variety of hosts and opinions and personalities, you’re in for a good time whether you just stream the episodes of albums you know and love while dipping your toes into new waters with episodes on albums you don’t but might interest you like me, or just check an episode or two out, or go all in, you won’t be disappointed. Ps to the hosts: recommendations for episodes include a dedicated ‘Weird Al’ one (In 3-D or Bad Hair Day?), Tarkus, the rest of the core seven MB albums, some more Grateful Dead and/or Green Day, and (I know this is a long shot lol) Atom Heart Mother.
