    Encounter Sunday

    We were never called to live without supernatural power.In Acts 19, we see God move through extraordinary miracles, bringing healing, deliverance, freedom, and radical life change. But the same God who moved then is still moving today.In this message, we’re reminded that God doesn’t need us to be extraordinary, He needs us to be available.     Don't Quit: Acts 18 | Compassion Church Dickson | Tommy Hodges

    What if the closed door isn’t the end of the story?In Acts 18, Paul arrives in Corinth carrying the Gospel, but also weakness, fear, and weariness. He faces opposition and rejection, yet God meets him with provision, people, a new opportunity, and a powerful reminder:“Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you… for I have many people in this city.” — Acts 18:9–10Sometimes God’s provision looks like a person. Sometimes rejection is actually redirection. And sometimes the miracle isn’t God changing your situation, it’s God giving you the strength to stay.Don’t quit because of what you can see right now. Keep praying. Keep inviting. Keep loving. Keep serving. Keep speaking.There are still people to reach. There are still prodigals to come home. There are still lives to be restored. And if there are still people, we still have a mission.

    The Unknown God | Compassion Church Dickson | Jamie Grisham

    How do we reach a changing culture without changing the Gospel?In Acts 17, Paul steps into cities filled with different beliefs, philosophies, religions, opinions, and people searching for meaning. Instead of becoming angry at the culture around him, Paul is stirred by the people who are lost within it.Paul understood something the Church still needs today: the truth never changes, but the way we communicate that truth may.In Thessalonica, Paul reasoned from Scripture. In Athens, he began with something the people already understood, the altar to the “unknown god” and used it as a bridge to introduce them to Jesus.He changed his approach, but he never changed the Gospel.As followers of Jesus, we are called to stay close enough to culture to speak to it, but different enough from culture to have something to say.And ultimately, every bridge we build should lead somewhere.     When God Says, "No." | Compassion Church Dickson | Jamie Grisham

    What do you do when God says “no”?We love celebrating open doors, answered prayers, and new opportunities, but sometimes God’s greatest “yes” is hidden inside a closed door.In Acts 16, Paul was doing something good. He was ready to preach the Gospel, yet the Holy Spirit stopped him, not once, but twice. Paul didn’t argue, negotiate, or force the door open. He simply kept walking. What looked like rejection was actually redirection toward a greater assignment.That redirection led Paul to Macedonia, where Lydia encountered Jesus, a slave girl was set free, and a prison became the setting for chains to fall and an entire household to experience salvation. What began with two closed doors ultimately impacted generations.Maybe you’re standing in front of a closed door right now. You’ve prayed, fasted, believed, and still haven’t received the answer you wanted. Don’t assume God’s “no” means He is absent.     Grace Alone | Compassion Church Dickson | Jamie Grisham

    In Acts 15, the early church faces one of its first major doctrinal conflicts: Is faith in Jesus enough for salvation, or does something need to be added?As Paul and Barnabas confront the teaching that Gentile believers must follow the Law of Moses to be saved, the church is forced to settle a foundational truth of the Gospel: Jesus + nothing = salvation.In this message, we unpack three important truths from Acts 15:• Don’t add to what Jesus finished. Salvation cannot be earned through church attendance, baptism, generosity, serving, good behavior, or religious works. These things are the fruit of salvation—not the foundation of it.• Remove unnecessary barriers. The Gospel calls us to repentance, holiness, obedience, and lordship, but we should never create religious requirements that Jesus never required.• Have a faith that produces. We are saved by grace through faith, not by works—but genuine faith transforms us and produces obedience.Religion says, “DO.”Jesus says, “DONE.”The law exposes our sin, but only the grace of Jesus can transform our hearts.
