How Collecto Currency Turns Silver Into Spendable Value

Send us Fan Mail A silver coin that behaves like a gift card, a collectible, and a tradeable asset sounds like hype until you walk through the mechanics. We’re joined by Joe Burgess of Collecto Currency, and he lays out how a locally minted coin can carry value beyond its metal content through design, scarcity, and real redemption at participating businesses. Joe connects the concept to his background in film production and collectible marketing, where limited runs and community adoption can turn a simple object into something people actively trade.  We also get practical about Florida and the legal landscape. Joe points to H.B. 999 and the growing acceptance of gold, silver, and platinum coins in trade, then explains why that matters for everyday buyers and high-dollar purchases alike. If trading in precious metals can reduce or eliminate sales tax in certain transactions, the savings can be huge, especially for retirees and anyone trying to avoid financing costs and keep more money in their pocket. This is a conversation about alternative currency, yes, but it’s really about incentives and how quickly incentives can change behavior.  Then we dig into the part that sparks the most debate: borrowing against these coins. Joe argues that using a coin as collateral can be a lower-cost option than credit cards, and he shares scenarios where access to cash flow matters more than “income,” including constraints some families face with Medicaid and Qualified Income Trust rules. We wrap with a look at Brevard County’s first coin, minted at the Highland Mint, and why the Space Coast could be the perfect launchpad for a local-first currency experiment.  If you’re curious about precious metals, barter, Florida H.B. 999, or new ways businesses can build loyalty and liquidity, listen through and weigh the risks and upside for yourself. Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves alternative investing, and leave a review with your take: would you actually spend a silver coin?
