Destiny of the Daleks: The Fourth Doctor, Romana II & the Return of Davros

The Daleks are back—and unfortunately for the universe, they’ve found Davros! This week on Earth Station Who, the crew travels back to 1979 to review the Fourth Doctor classic “Destiny of the Daleks,” starring the legendary Tom Baker and marking Lalla Ward’s debut as the newly regenerated Romana II. The Doctor and Romana arrive on a seemingly dead planet that turns out to be a very familiar place: Skaro, home of the Daleks. But the Doctor’s oldest enemies aren’t alone. Locked in a seemingly endless war with the robotic Movellans, the Daleks have returned to Skaro searching for their creator, Davros, hoping his twisted genius can finally give them the advantage they need. Join the Earth Station Who crew as we break down all four episodes, from Tom Baker and Lalla Ward’s instantly entertaining chemistry to the return of Davros, the wonderfully disco-era Movellans, and, of course, plenty of Dalek mayhem. How does Destiny of the Daleks hold up more than four decades later, and is it truly worthy of its place in Classic Doctor Who history? Grab your sonic screwdriver, watch out for Daleks, and whatever you do, don’t get into a fashion contest with a Movellan. Subscribe to Earth Station Who for weekly reviews, classic serial discussions, Big Finish audio adventures, interviews, and everything happening in the Whoniverse! The 42cast Episode 295: Putting the King in Kingpin

Daredevil: Born Again joins a very exclusive club of MCU Disney+ series that attained a second season. The series initially gained a 17 episode order from Marvel Studios with the first 9 airing last year, and the latter 8 airing this year. Likely due to the the large episode order, the second season plays as a continuation of the first rather than as a new season in its own right. In this episode we discuss the twists and turns of the story. We talk about the character depictions and their usage throughout the season. We also go into the weeds, diving into where this fits into the MCU timeline, the politics of the MCU, and what we think of the return of The Defenders next season. Our five-minute controversy this week asks if Ron Marz is correct that people shouldn’t express their opinions over official trailers. In this episode Tom, Eric, and Alli join the cast. The 2026 Dragon Con Report Episode 9: The Big Damn Dragon Show

Last Call Before Dragon Con: Parties, Games and Military Sci-Fi Dragon Con 2026 is almost here! So, the Dragon Con Report is making one final stop before everyone heads to Atlanta. For our last pre-con episode, we welcome guests from three very different parts of Dragon Con. We talk about late-night parties, audience-powered games and military science fiction. Plus, we share a few final thoughts before the convention begins. Keeping Dragon Con Dancing First, DJ Nemesis joins us to talk about the Dragon Con party DJs. He gives us a look at the music and events that keep the convention going after dark. Of course, Dragon Con parties are about more than dancing. They are also a place to meet people, show off costumes and enjoy the nightlife. As a result, the parties have become a big part of the Dragon Con experience. DJ Nemesis gives us a taste of what attendees can expect this year. So, if dancing is part of your Dragon Con plans, you’ll want to listen in. Get Ready for the Big Damn Game Show Next, Dave West joins us to talk about the Big Damn Game Show. This interactive event combines geeky trivia with audience participation and plenty of surprises. However, this isn’t a game show where the audience simply watches. Instead, attendees can become part of the action. Because the audience plays such a big role, each show can be different. You never know exactly what will happen next. Exploring the Military Sci-Fi Media Track Meanwhile, Karen and James Henson give us a preview of the Military Sci-Fi Media Track. The track covers military science fiction across television, movies and other media. In addition, its panels explore the characters, stories and ideas that keep fans coming back to the genre. Karen and James share what the track has planned for Dragon Con 2026. Therefore, military sci-fi fans will want to add a few of these panels to their schedules. Three Different Sides of Dragon Con Together, our guests show just how much variety you can find at Dragon Con. For example, you can spend part of your day exploring science fiction panels. Later, you might jump into a live game show. Finally, you can finish the night on a dance floor. That variety is one of the things that makes the convention special. More importantly, there is always something new to discover. Making Those Final Dragon Con Plans Finally, Dragon Con is close enough that the countdown is measured in days. Schedules are filling up. Costumes are being finished. Meanwhile, attendees everywhere are trying to figure out how much they can fit into one weekend. Although you can’t see everything, a little planning goes a long way. Pick a few must-do events first. Then, leave some room for unexpected discoveries along the way. Whether you want parties, games or military sci-fi, this episode has something for you. Creepy Kids in Horror and Why they’re unnerve us | Earth Station Boo

They don’t scream. They don’t run. They just watch – with those ancient eyes and that smile that says they already know how your story ends. Tea and Karen are joined by Thomas as we get into one of horror’s most enduring and psychologically rich archetypes… the Creepy Kid. From the changeling folklore of ancient mythology to Regan MacNeil, Damien Thorn, Samara Morgan, and Gage Creed, they trace the full history of the evil child in horror, unpack what these characters reveal about our deepest fears around innocence, parenting, and generational trauma, debate the ethics of the trope, and rank their personal favorites. Whether evil is born or made, one thing is certain – that smile will stay with you long after the lights come back on. The 2026 Dragon Con Report Episode 8: An Interview with Bob Burden

This time on The Dragon Con Report, Jen sits down with legendary independent comic creator Bob Burden for a conversation from a slightly unusual location — her home tiki bar, Smuggler’s Hideaway. Best known as the creator of Flaming Carrot Comics and the original Mystery Men, Bob has built a career around surreal humor, unconventional superheroes and a willingness to take stories in directions few other creators would even consider. The Strange World of Flaming Carrot Bob looks back at the origins of Flaming Carrot, a superhero with no powers, no secret identity and a tendency to solve problems in decidedly unconventional ways. He explains how stripping away the traditional superhero formula forced him to make the story itself the star. That leads to tales of drunken Death, bizarre visual gags, surrealism, and the delicate art of knowing when an idea is wonderfully strange — and when it might be a bridge too far. Bob also shares the storytelling structure hidden beneath all that weirdness and why even surreal stories still need a beginning, middle and end. Independent Comics and Creative Freedom The conversation turns to Bob’s experiences as an independent creator and why working without the safety net of a guaranteed paycheck ultimately made him a stronger storyteller. He recalls the independent comics scene of the 1980s, discovering new creators in Artist Alley, and watching artists such as Daniel Clowes and the Hernandez brothers find success. There’s also a memorable story about meeting underground comics legend Robert Crumb, along with Bob’s thoughts on creators he would still love to collaborate with. Mystery Men, Technology and More Comic Book Chaos Naturally, things get stranger from there. Bob shares stories involving Flaming Carrot crossing paths with the superhero mainstream, the origins of some of his limited and variant comics, his recent Santos Sisters crossover, and even a story that may — depending on whom you believe — have helped plant a tiny seed for the creation of Image Comics. He also discusses how technology has changed his creative process, from oversized original comic pages and hand lettering to computer fonts and modern production methods. Why Bob Burden Keeps Coming Back to Dragon Con Finally, Bob talks about his long history with conventions and why he continues returning to Dragon Con. Having watched convention culture grow from gatherings of only a few hundred people into the massive celebrations they are today, Bob reflects on what he loves about the people who make up the community: they’re having fun, expressing themselves and enjoying the things they love. If you’re heading to Dragon Con this year, be sure to look for Bob Burden in the Comics and Pop Artist Alley at AmericasMart.
