(* longgg sigh*) where do I begin. I understand the perspective. I admit that issues do exist. I rarely see diaspora that empathize with the roots of cultural disfunction in East Africa, and this lack of empathy is increasing as generation z becomes older and emboldened by their access to excess information technology. I firmly believe that the responsibility to make change falls on those who have inherited more power through privilege. If we’re going to address trauma, victimization, ptsd, mental health etc then start with recognizing that nobody experienced more of this than our elders. I would also be willing to bet that those negative experiences are compounded as you go back by each generation. East Africa has been a sufferable international war zone since 1896(conservative estimation) to this day(Deontay wilder voice). Meanwhile In 2020 the diaspora sits abroad in the comfort of 1st world technology. IF the producer of this podcast is only concerned with the venting of her feelings then I applaud. Good job. However if this is meant to be constructive then it’s a failure. East Africans do not need cries of awareness via diaspora in foreign lands. We need our homelands protected in peace before we can plant progressive seeds to the culture. Our lands our people are suffering in survival mode. It’s ironic that we shout towards the East, expecting hungry people to uphold values that comfortable western society created through privilege cultivated by our blood our resources our lands. Meanwhile the solutions of East Africa are actually extremely fundamental & attainable despite them being systematically blocked. Being diaspora, the best thing we can do is to get off our lazy entitled behinds and make change in the flesh with sweat & blood. For the sake of fairness I admit I bring my personal protocols with my opinion: 1) I believe that a caring individual will silently devote life to uprooting systematic problems(killers move in silence). 2) If I’m not willing to put myself 10 toes down into a war zone in order to solve an issue, then I’m not going to complain about the issue(put up or shut up). 3)Life, especially in wide open western countries, has many privileged avenues of creating power by accepting high levels of responsibility(Uncle Ben spider man). 4) Colonialism never stopped so we should not dry snitch. 5) Diaspora have the biggest responsibility to walk, not talk.
