When Doing the Right Thing Doesn’t Seem to Be Working

What do you do when you’ve been faithful, and nothing seems to have changed yet? You prayed again. You showed up again. You made the right choice again. You tried to rebuild trust, love well, forgive, serve, or keep going. And then another day came, and the wall was still standing. In Joshua 6, Israel marched around Jericho and returned to camp. The next day, they did it again. For six days, they followed the pattern God had given them even though the wall was still there. On the seventh day, that wall came down! But there’s an important distinction: Jericho is not a promise that every wall in our lives will eventually fall. Israel had been given specific instructions and a specific promise from God. So the lesson isn't: Keep doing something long enough, and eventually you'll get the result you want. It's deeper than that. Faithfulness isn't trusting that my method will eventually work. Faithfulness is trusting God enough to follow Him. We don't need immediate results to make God's way trustworthy. You don't have to manufacture the outcome today. You don't have to pretend the waiting isn't difficult. Ask what's faithful. Then start there. ❓ QUESTION OF THE DAYWhere are you tempted to give up because you haven't seen the results you hoped for yet? 🎙️ FAMILY EDITIONWant the complete Lifeline Morning Show experience - with Carline Competition, listener calls and requests, prayer, This Day in History, more music talk, and the spontaneous moments that happen when we're together live? Be Willing to Change: What God May Be Doing While You Wait

It’s easy to know what we want God to change. The situation. The relationship. The answer we’re waiting for. The person we wish would respond differently. But while we're waiting for something around us to change, are we still willing for God to work in us? Today, we’re talking about what it means to remain teachable while you wait. In 1 Samuel 7, Israel is longing for the Lord. Samuel responds with an important “if.” If they truly intend to return to the Lord wholeheartedly, there is a response required: put away the foreign gods, direct their hearts toward the Lord, and serve Him alone. That's more than generic advice to “be a better person.” It's repentance. It's exclusive allegiance to God. And it raises an important question for us: If God's Word shows me something in my life that doesn't belong with following Him wholeheartedly, am I willing to let it go? In this episode, we talk about the difference between healthy growth and constantly searching for something wrong with yourself; why correction doesn't have to mean rejection; how “just be yourself” can become an excuse to stop growing; and what it means to remain open to God's work while you're waiting for something else to change. Maybe the prayer isn't only: “Lord, change this.” Maybe there's another prayer alongside it: “Lord, while I'm waiting for something to change around me, keep me willing to grow too.” You don't have to go looking for faults today. Just stay willing. Lord, I want to belong wholly to You. And if something in my life doesn't belong with that, I'm willing to let it go. 📖 Today's Word of Life: 1 Samuel 7:3 ❓ QUESTION OF THE DAYWhile you're waiting for something around you to change, where might God be inviting you to grow? 🎙️ FAMILY EDITIONWant the whole morning—including Carline Competition, listener calls and requests, more music and conversation, This Day in History, and the unscripted moments that make the Lifeline Morning Show a family? What’s Your Part? When You Can’t Control the Outcome

What do you do when you don’t know how something is going to turn out? Maybe you’re worried about your child, waiting on someone else to make a decision, facing something at work or school, or trying desperately to make a situation go the way you think it should. Today, we're asking a simpler question: What’s my part? Jonah couldn't control how Nineveh would respond. He couldn't control what God would do next. But he did have something God had given him to do. His part was obedience. That distinction can change the way we face uncertainty. There are things God gives us to do. There are things that belong to other people. And there are things only God can do. Sometimes we exhaust ourselves trying to carry all three. In this episode, we talk about what faithfulness looks like when you're nervous, frustrated, disappointed, or unsure of the outcome - including why you can take the next step with a shaky hand. Faithfulness isn't the absence of emotion. It's refusing to let every emotion become your instruction. And if yesterday wasn't your best day, Jonah's story gives us another important reminder: Yesterday's failure doesn't make today's faithfulness unavailable. God isn't asking you to be Him. He's asking you to be faithful. 📖 Today's Word of Life: Then the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time: “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.” This time Jonah obeyed the Lord’s command and went to Nineveh... Your Word of Life, from Jonah 3:1-3a (NLT) ❓ QUESTION OF THE DAYWhere in your life do you most need to stop trying to control the outcome and simply be faithful with your part? 🎙️ FAMILY EDITIONWant the whole morning - the listener conversations, Carline Competition, music, laughter, and the live-radio moments surrounding today's conversation? When One Problem Becomes the Only Thing You Can See

Have you ever noticed how quickly one difficult thing can become the biggest thing in the room? A meeting. A bill. A hard conversation. Something happening in your family. A decision you have to make. It may be completely real. But when fear takes over, that one thing can begin to feel like the only thing that's true. In Numbers 13–14, twelve men saw the same land, the same fortified cities, the same opposition - and the same giants. Joshua and Caleb didn't pretend those things weren't there. They just didn't leave God out of what they were seeing. Today we're talking about the difference between acknowledging what's in front of us and allowing it to become bigger in our minds than everything we already know about God. Because the problem may be real. But that's not all that's true. And there's an incredible detail in this story: while Israel was talking about why they couldn't trust God with what came next, they were carrying evidence that He had already told them the truth about the land - a cluster of grapes so large it took two men to carry it. Sometimes fear makes us stare so hard at what's ahead that we forget what we're already carrying. What has God already brought you through? Where have you seen His provision, grace, or faithfulness? Ultimately, we look to Jesus and the cross - the greatest evidence that God can be trusted. Faith doesn't pretend the giants aren't there. It refuses to look at them as though God isn't with you. 📖 Today's Word of Life: Numbers 14:8 ❓ QUESTION OF THE DAYWhat's one thing God has already brought you through that helps you trust Him with what you're facing now? 🎙️ FAMILY EDITIONWant the whole morning - the conversations, fun, music, and moments that don't make the Focused Edition? When Someone Loves You Enough to Tell You the Truth

What if the encouragement you need isn't, “You've got this”—but, “Hey...don't go that way”? We usually think of encouragement as making someone feel better, cheering them on, or reminding them they can keep going. But Hebrews 3:13 gives us a deeper picture. Sometimes love encourages. Sometimes love comforts. And sometimes love warns. In today's Lifeline Morning Show Podcast, we're exploring why we need people who care enough to come alongside us and tell us the truth—even when it isn't what we wanted to hear. Because sometimes everybody around us can see something we can't see ourselves. That doesn't give Christians permission to control other people's lives or act as though we always know what's best. Speaking that kind of truth requires humility. And receiving it requires humility, too. We'll talk about what biblical encouragement actually looks like, why Hebrews connects it with protecting one another from the deceitfulness of sin, and how encouragement changes when our confidence isn't ultimately in ourselves. When someone is struggling, perhaps they don't need another person telling them: “You're strong enough.” Maybe they need someone beside them saying: “God is faithful. He hasn't left you. And you don't have to walk through this alone.” Because sometimes encouragement isn't reminding somebody how strong they are. It's helping them remember how faithful He is. How to Be Angry Without Feeding the Fire

Can you be angry without letting anger decide what you do next? Proverbs 15:1 says a gentle answer can turn away wrath - but that doesn't mean Christians should pretend they aren't angry, avoid difficult conversations, or never establish healthy boundaries. There's a difference between feeling anger and feeding anger. In today's Lifeline Morning Show Podcast, we're looking at what happens between the heart and the lips. Proverbs 15 repeatedly connects our words with what's happening inside us: what grows in the heart eventually shows up in the fruit of our lives. A harsh response can give anger somewhere to grow. One comment becomes another. The argument continues in our heads long after the conversation ends. We replay what they said, imagine what we should have said, and keep adding fuel. But a gentle response can interrupt the cycle. You can feel the heat without feeding the fire. We'll talk about why gentleness isn't weakness, how to make room for the pause before responding, and how staying close to Christ changes what eventually comes out of us. The goal isn't simply better behavior. ❓ Question of the DayWhen you're angry, what's hardest for you: pausing before you respond, letting go of what you wish you'd said, or not replaying the conversation afterward? 🎙️ Want the Whole Morning? The expanded Family Edition is here: Episode: https://youtu.be/q9PlKn8YnO0 Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLX5CERbCPq2_QPwU-2iG5FnKwAYZMfcEo 🎵 Today's MusicComplete Spotify Playlist:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5nLBq7c73icpsUe1aUoiTU?si=y-d7GEX0QzqKn6Pw47H6VQ Don't use Spotify? How Do You Love Someone Who Hasn't Treated You Well?

Most of us instinctively start keeping score. If you're good to me, I'll be good to you. If you respect me, I'll respect you. But when someone hurts us, dismisses us, or doesn't appreciate what we've done, the calculation changes: What do they deserve from me now? In Luke 6:35–36, Jesus challenges that entire way of thinking. He tells His followers to love their enemies, do good, lend without expecting repayment, and be compassionate because our Father is compassionate. Today on the Lifeline Morning Show Podcast, we're discovering why this is about more than simply being nice to difficult people. Jesus is forming disciples who increasingly resemble their Teacher. Later in Luke 6, He says that a fully trained student becomes like the teacher. That changes the question. Instead of asking: “What have they earned from me?” we begin asking: “Whose character am I reflecting?” We'll talk about keeping score in relationships, loving difficult people without pretending their actions don't matter, compassion and healthy boundaries, becoming more like Jesus, and why spiritual growth isn't measured only by what we know - but by whether our lives increasingly resemble the One we're following. And Luke 6 ends with another challenge: two people hear Jesus' words, but only one actually puts them into practice. Put down the calculator. Pick up the mirror. Stay close enough to Jesus that people begin to experience the Father's character through your life. ❓ Question of the DayWhen someone treats you badly, what's hardest for you: letting go of the score—or choosing to respond differently? 🎙️ Want the Whole Morning? How Do You Love Someone Who Hasn't Treated You Well?

Are You Really Listening - or Just Waiting to Respond?

Have you ever realized that while someone was talking, you weren't really listening - you were already preparing what you were going to say next? James 1:19 gives us a different way to approach our conversations: be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. But what if James is pointing us toward something even deeper than becoming better communicators? Today on the Lifeline Morning Show Podcast, we're talking about what it means to listen to understand instead of listening to respond - with our friends, our families, and ultimately with God. We'll look at the surrounding context of James 1, why slowing down can change the way we respond, and the connection between listening to God's Word and actually living what we've heard. You'll also hear a simple question that can completely change a difficult conversation: Do you want my advice - or do you just need me to listen? Plus, encouragement for teachers beginning a new school year, a powerful story about Booker T. Washington and servant leadership, and a reminder for those of us who spend so much of life rushing from one thing to the next. Question of the Day:When someone you care about is struggling, what helps you know whether they need advice - or simply need you to listen? 🎙️ Want the whole morning? The Family Edition includes the parts of the live show that don't make the Focused podcast—the callers, contests, listener interaction, spontaneous conversations, shout-outs and more.
