    Not Forgotten Outreach

    Don Peters shares about the history of Not Forgotten Outreach and Vet Corps programming that NFO offer to veterans and their families. While visiting Don at the new Not Forgotten Outreach Headquarters (@ Corral #5 on the corner of Paseo and Placitas (Accross from Cids) ) I was able to learn about the amazing infrastructure of NFO and how it has grown exponentially since its Founding back in 2013 by Miss Kym Sanchez. As a Veteran of the Iraq War, Miss Kym had a vision to support military families by creating a safe space for our service men and women upon their return back home. Starting as a humble gardening project at the Taos Mens Shelter, NFO moved to a small plot on the westside of the Sunset Park, then on to create a respite for military families an old Bed and Breakfast near the Sunset Park Plot. Now NFO had multiple sites that offer therapeutic and educational opportunities for Vets and their Families, my favorite of which was the ecotherapy site that had an aquaponics infrastructure that can allow vets to engage in innovative styles of agriculture. Another favorite of mine was the animal husbandry aspect where one could interact with mini horses, goats, ducks, and other farm animals!     Jon Kristian Moore & Lether Werks

    Jon Kristian Moore is a small town kind of guy with Holly Wood caliber acting talent. Taos has a unique draw for all types of people, and actors are no exception, Kristian along with other Taos actors such as Jonny Long and Dylan Kiernan are making a presence here. He was born in Casper, Wyoming and started his younger years with a love for playing Ice Hockey until he was recruited to play in his school’s theatre production of “A midnite Summers Dream”. His charisma and natural talent for acting landed him the lead role in the play and ever since that small school production, he has pursued his acting career after High School. After over 25 years of pro-bono theatre work and casting various roles, Kristian has accumulated 19 credits on IMDb and starred in blockbusters like Wiskey Tango Foxtrot along with Tina Fey and also mini series like Waco and The Borrowers. In this podcast, Kristian tells us about the acting process and what it takes to make it a career. This is very interesting insight and also perfect timing for aspiring actors to get some first hand insight, especially with Netflix making a studio in Albuquerque Along with a love for acting, Kristian has been learning the art of leatherwork during his time in Taos at the Lether Werks on the John Dunn Plaza Shops off of Bent street. After years of apprenticing, Kristian eventually bought the Lether Werks and continues providing high quality Leather goods and also other cottage industy goods. Kristian is an active tennis player and public recreation enthusiast. He cares about inspiring the creation and maintainence of community spaces for the people of Taos to enjoy. Kristian loves to hunt, process, and eat wild game to maintain his health and build community through hunting.     Neight Larcen is a Local Taos Producer, MC, Promoter, and all around Hip Hop Super from the Talpa community of Taos, New Mexico. Bringing big shows like the Slap Frost Tour into small town Taos is a passion for Neight, he selflessly promotes the scene by donating his time and efforts to create a space foh hip hop to thrive. OCT.31st 2018 SlapFrost Tour is coming to Taos Mesa Brewery for an all ages show, including headliners such as: Carnage the Executioner, Casual from the Hieroglyphics Crew, Z-Man, PO10CEE and many other Local NM Talent When Neight was growing up in this small mountain town of Taos, NM, there was absolutely no Hip Hip scene for heads to tap into. Neight and his neighbors started Break Dancing, Freestyling,  Putting up graffiti art, around town, playing basketball, and embodying the hip hop movement. This pioneer was one of the first to start establishing a hip hop community in the area. With these humble beginnings of producing beats on a playstation and walking the dirt roads free styling for hours, Neight has worked himself up to have an incredible discography and created many amazing collaborations withsome heavy hitters in the game today. The past 20+ yrs. Neight Larcen has been traveling the world playing gigs with Acts such as Public Enemy, Pharcyde, Wu Tang, Del, Digable Planets, Carnage The Executioner, Qwel & Maker, Sleep(of Old Dominion), George Clinton, Busdriver, and many many more.     Herbal Serums from the desert and delicious Empenadas are what Keith and Eden Colibri are bringing to Taos, New Mexico! These newcomers to Taos are excited to be opening up Illuminations Apothecary on the Main Drag of Taos, next to Broadsky Books.Kieth and Eden are sharing a space with the Taos Spice Merchant! Keith This Apothecary is filled with herbal remedies such as tinctures, organic body care products, and even medicinal mushroom for sleep and brain cognition! Keith is behind creating the body care line as well as custom spice mixes for cooking. Eden has a rich culinary back ground and teaches classes at Illuminations Apothecary every month. On top of opening up a new apothecary shop, these guys sell Eden’s New Mexican Empenadas at the Taos Farmers Market on Saturdays! These two guys have a cool story and talk about their roots and inspirations. They want to contribute to the community of Taos and have much knowledge and experience to offer! Not to mention that Eden is a life coach for those going through addiction or identity crisis.     Taos Mountain Lifestyle Podcast Presents: Jerrod Elliot and Dream Tree Farm

    Dream Tree Farm is only one aspect of the Dream Tree Project.  Dream Tree Project is guided by empathy and integrity to provide a respectful, safe and structured environment to support youth in crisis. Jerrod Elliot is the manager of Dream Tree Farm these days and he is establishing the “2 acres in a box” over on La Posta Rd in Taos, New Mexico. They are growing head of lettuce, bundles of herbs, and also radishes in the mechanized, hydroponic container. It is a sight to behold when seeing walls of green with led string lights between each green wall. I love to know that Dream Tree Farm is providing fresh nutritious greens to the Taos Community. What is the best part of the Farm is that young people who are looking for help in their tough times have the opportunity to find a meaningful path through agriculture. It makes me happy to see that people like Jerrod are willing ot take the time to give a helping hand to youth in need.     Taos Mountain Lifestyle Podcast: Taos County Economic Development Corporation

    Strong Indigenous Sisters, Pati Martison and Terri Badhand, Co-Founders of Taos County Economic Development Corporation, share their story of Community Development work over the past 40 years. In the 70’s, Pati and Terri met and became sisters through a Lakota Ceremony that bonded them for life. With their passion to help all indigenous peoples in Denver Colorado, they successfully established the Denver Indian Center Development Corporation. While in Denver they also created a elder living center complete with gardens and indigenous values. In 1985 the sisters moved to small town Taos, New Mexico with intentions of helping Taos Pueblo and its economic development but as it turns out the Town of Taos gave them an opportunity to lead the Taos Economic Council first. Pati and Terri demonstrated the first “Shared Leadership” approach to running an organization. Since then they have grown a 24,000 sqft facility that is on 6 acres on Bertha Street. This Facility offers a school, a commercial kitchen, youth programming in agriculture, and a mobile meat processing vehicle called the “mobile Mantanza”. The site also boasts 2 hoop houses and 1.5 acres of growing space for food. Taos County Economic Development Corporation is a great resource for all community members.     Taos Mountain Lifestyle Podcast with Maye Torres of Studio 107-B

    Maye Torres has an interesting history  in the Taos Art Community. She is currently running Studio 107-B along with a few other core artists to keep the scene on Taos Plaza fresh! In this episode she talks about the family history of the building that Studio 107-B occupies, how the plaza used to be when she was a kid, and also about the rich history from both sides of her spanish heritage!  The core artists are Maye Torres,  Izumi Yokoyama, Frank Seckler, and Isaiah Trujillo in Studio 107-B.
