Let me try to explain what this music is… These songs were created by playing drums to guitar loops using various effects pedals with minimal overdubs. Doing my best to make songs I can play live without getting too complicated. I’ve been in bands before (Helms, Dagobah, Pizza, Challenger). This project does not feel like a band. Creating songs in a band is a collaborative process where each member brings their own ideas and skills to the table. I see being a member in a band sort of like being one part of a construction crew all working together to build a house. Songs are like houses. I don’t see these Pterodan songs as houses.. you can’t build a house by yourself. These songs are more like structures that can be built by one person.. sort of like a shed. SHED ROCK.•

August 2021, I recorded 12 songs at Machines w/ Magnets (@machineswithmagnets) in Pawtucket, RI. Engineered by Seth Manchester (@seffffffy), he patiently worked with me for 3 days and made my drums and guitar sound awesome.

Episode 57: Drew O'Doherty; Ted Leo, Ivory Coast
Hey Y'all. One of my favorite memories of Drew was seeing him cover Songs:Ohia songs solo during an apartment show in Inman Sq. Out of all the Jason Molina songs covered that time after his death, I always remembered Drew's interpretation being one of the most endearing. Thanks for listening. Stay safe y'all. j.

Vital
Somebody needed to do it - start talking to the key players of a diverse music scene across Boston, primarily from the 90's. J Heasley, a musician and music fan knows the right people to chat up and the right questions to ask. Sit back and enjoy some humorous and insightful conversations from an elite group of artists, entirely ahead of their time.
My favorite slice of Boston music history
The interview with Ayal from Spore is a rare and beautiful thing! It would be great to hear future episodes done in a better environment for interviews (and not in a practice space next to a live band!!).
Vital Boston Music history
J - Is doing us all a service giving highlighting the stories of a variety of Boston artists and musicians from the last 3 decades.
