LSU gymnast and social media sensation Olivia Dunne joined women's basketball star Angel Reese on the cover of the most recent edition Sports Illustrated for their NIL earnings, personal branding, and success both in their sports and in business. Dunne has the third highest NIL valuation of any NCAA athlete, trailing only Bronny James, son of Lebron James, and Colorado quarterback Shadeur Sanders while Reese takes the number seven spot in NIL valuations. Each of these LSU Tigers have an estimated value of seven figures and based off of their influence that reaches far beyond the city limits of Baton Rouge, they aren't done yet.
Stephanie Apstein, senior writer for Sports Illustrated, wrote the feature on Dunne, Reese, and how the LSU athletic department has been a pioneer for NIL in creating opportunities for student athletes and establishing connections with brands to set the student athletes up for NIL success. What Apstein also highlights, which might be even more important than creating those opportunities, is financial literacy courses in which every athlete at LSU is given in-depth training on managing wealth and smart spending and saving habits.
There are only three women in the top 15 of NIL earnings per On3 Sports and all three of those women play for LSU: Dunne, Reese, and Reese's teammate and fellow reigning national champion Flau'jae Johnson. If LSU has proven anything it is that playing for the purple and gold can bring athletes championships and will get them prepared for the next level. The LSU Tigers defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 34-31 on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. LSU got the win and extend their conference record to 2-0, but it was a much closer game than anyone, LSU fans, Arkansas fans, and even Las Vegas, anticipated. Why were the Razorbacks able to keep it so close against LSU?
The slow offensive start and Jayden Daniels hiccups early in the game did not help LSU's case. But the most glaring smudge on the Tigers' resume against Arkansas was the third down defense. Arkansas converted only two of their thirteen third downs last week at home in a loss to the BYU Cougars. Against LSU Arkansas converted eight of thirteen. Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson was able to turn a 3rd and 6 and a 3rd and 18 into touchdown drives.
However, third down defense isn't a new problem for the Tigers. It was a huge reason why LSU fell behind to the Florida State Seminoles in the second half of the first game of the season. The Noles converted 9 of their 14 third downs and LSU couldn't even stop them in 3rd and 13, 3rd and 12, and other 3rd and long situations.
Overall, the third down defense and secondary is hurting the LSU Tigers football team. It makes the defense's job more difficult and it puts more pressure on Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas, Logan Diggs, and other offensive starters to make each drive a touchdown drive. But how can it get fixed?

The LSU Tigers defeated SEC West foe Arkansas Razorbacks 34-31 Saturday night in Baton Rouge after a walk-off field goal and second half offensive fireworks led the purple and gold to victory. Which Tigers stood out the most in LSU's second conference win of the season so far?
Head coach Brian Kelly gave wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. the game ball after his five reception, 133 yard, and two touchdown performance. Malik Nabers also had a monster day with 8 receptions for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns of his own. Those two receivers accounted for all four of the Tigers end zone trips on Saturday night. But who gets the Locked On LSU offensive game ball? There is no doubt Nabers and Thomas are quarterback Jayden Daniels' favorite targets and continue to grow their confidence and trust every single week. But there was another offensive player in the purple and gold against Arkansas who maybe didn't have as impressive of a day on the box score but whose impact was felt and necessary in order to get a win against the Hogs.
Plus, defensive and special teams game balls. The defense struggled containing Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson with his massive 250-pound frame and the secondary allowed several large gains in the passing game. But one incredibly impressive and vital aspect of the defense Saturday night was the red zone defense. Three of Arkansas' trips to the red zone ended in field goals because of LSU's defensive line. But who stood out the most?

The Golden Boot will stay in Baton Rouge after the LSU Tigers defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 34-31 in Tiger Stadium with a last minute field goal. It wasn't the prettiest win for the Tigers, entering the matchup with the Hogs as 17 point favorites, but a win is a win and LSU is now 2-0 in SEC play.
The Tigers came out slow, sluggish, and without many answers for Arkansas' defense as Jayden Daniels was limited with what he could do in both the run and pass games. LSU went three-and-out in their first possession and didn't get points on the board until a field goal late in the second quarter. Arkansas, however, looked great offensively. LSU's secondary struggled to keep up with the Razorbacks WRs but the Tigers defensive front held the Hogs to two field goals on two trips to the red zone. LSU's offense got some much needed momentum late in the first half when Jayden Daniels found Brian Thomas in the end zone for a 49 yard touchdown to cut Arkansas' lead to 13-10 going into halftime.
LSU came out firing in the second half. The Tigers scored on all four of their possessions in the second half, getting into the end zone three times and a field goal to win the game. The issue, however, is that Arkansas answered LSU's explosive offensive plays with explosive scoring plays of their own. It was a shootout between veterans Jayden Daniels and KJ Jefferson, but ultimately LSU scored last with a 20 yard field goal. Arkansas got the ball with only five seconds remaining, a strategic move by Brian Kelly to use his teams remaining two timeouts to run the clock out.
It was not pretty at all times but ultimately the Tigers did what they needed to do to get a win. LSU takes on Ole Miss in Oxford next weekend.
