Let's Be Legendary - The Feywild West - A queer actual play podcast

I will start by saying that I do not care much for actual plays. So keep that in mind as I say this is one of my favourite shows, and I have been absolutely binging it. The characters are a delight, the story is nuanced, emotional, funny, endearing, poignant … if there’s an emotion they haven’t made me feel, I’m fairly certain I need only wait and that will become remedied. Plus it is very very queer which is absolutely fantastic.

This podcast has better story and characters than most television/streaming shows and movies.

This is an amazing actual play podcast filled to the brim with LGBTQ+ characters, and, alongside that, they tackle other world issues such as racism. Other than that, it’s just a fantastic podcast with a very intricate story that started because the players and the DM were bored.

During the time of writing this review there has been a lot of sitting around and being stuck inside, but this podcast is perfect for binges of D&D related podcasts. This podcast has a unique feeling not only because of the diversity of different queer characters, but also the world building is done beautifully, the players have detailed and tragic backstories, and the story throughout the campaign so far has been a tightrope walk of ridiculous player shenanigans and dark storytelling. The DM is a lovely person and has created a rich and well-though out world that the players seem like they just slot in, and every story beat happens just so that without the rolling of the dice it would feel like the making of a TV drama. And this feat of creating such a masterpiece is made all the more astounding when you realize there are only two players! The DM manages to balance out the encounters so well, adding danger without inciting a TPK. The community is so lovely and supportive one each other, and generally nerding out when new episodes come out, and the creators are active as well, interacting with fans and taking feedback to heart, this is a queer podcast with an amazing story right out of the gate, don’t pass it up, I can’t wait to watch the community grow, and who knows? I think we might have the next Critical Role on our hands, here’s to many more years!
