    205 - Summer Hangout 2026

Summer is (finally) winding down, and it's time for a hangout episode! As you know, we are not made for the heat, so we've slowed down a bit on the reading and the writing—but don't worry, we're still absolutely crushing our reading goals. Show Notes Gen has done a surprising number of summer activities, and we've even done a bunch together, including a baseball game, a book launch, and a visit to Toronto's Book Bar. Is baseball the most romantic sport?  We had such a great time at the book launch for Fossil Feud by Maggie North, facilitated by Stephanie Archer and hosted by Hopeless Romantic books. We even made a new book friend! Next on our bookish event list is Word on the Street, which Gen can finally go to this year. It's happening September 26 & 27 at David Pecaut Square by Roy Thompson Hall. If you're in Toronto, it's free to attend and always a great time for book lovers, so definitely check it out! Our next episode will be a book club episode, talking about The Dream Thieves graphic novel adaptation by Maggie Stiefvater and illustrated by Sas Milledge.  After that, we'll be chatting with Heidi Reimer about her new book What We Found Instead. It's been a while since we've done an interview and we can't wait! 202 - In Her Own League by Liz Tomforde

In Episode 202, we talk about Jette's book club pick, In Her Own League by Liz Tomforde! As you may know, we're deep in our romance era right now—especially sports romance—and we loved Monty and Reese so much!  Show Notes In Her Own League is a spin-off of the best-selling Windy City Series, which is currently in development for a TV series! Emmett "Monty" Montgomery is definitely based on real-life MLB manager Gabe Kapler. You're welcome. Interconnected romance series for the win every time! We can't wait for Liz Tomforde's next series, Wilder Woods, which takes place in California and follows the Wilder siblings. The first instalment, Cardinal Rule, is set to come out next year. So many of these romance authors are Canadian, which we love. We're stoked to be going to the book launch for Fossil Feud by Maggie North, in conversation with Stephanie Archer, author of the hockey romance series Vancouver Storm. Hosted, of course, by Hopeless Romantic Books. In our next episode, we're taking a wildly different turn for our Page to Screen series by reading Clockers by Richard Price and watching the 1995 Spike Lee film adaptation. After that, we'll be doing some summer spooky reading with What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher. Our next book club pick is Gen's, and it's The Dream Thieves graphic novel adaptation of Book 2 of The Raven Cycle Series by Maggie Steifvater, illustrated by Sas Milledge. It's coming out August 4.  Other Books and Authors Mentioned Helena Hunting Off Campus Series by Elle Kennedy  Elsie Silver Becka Mack  Heated Rivalry/Game Changers Series by Rachel Reid

    200 - 200th Episode Hangout Celebration

It's our 200th episode! What better way to celebrate than by talking about all the books we've been reading? Show Notes While we've already passed 200 episodes on our other podcast, Teenage Daydream, this one is extra special because it was our first podcast. Sadly the cafe where Another Book on the Shelf was born—Page One—is no longer, but hopefully they'll open in another location soon. Shout out to Hopeless Romantic bookshop and Stormbound Books for running the coolest book rebinding workshops.  Artemis II got us through the beginning of April. For more details about all the romance we've been reading, make sure to listen our episode dedicated to all things romance! Pizza Hut, please make all our dreams come true and have an adult version of Book It. Our next episode will be our June Pride episode, and we're keeping it romantic with Anderson in Bloom by Jennifer Dugan. 199 - Romance Reads

In Episode 199, we're talking about a genre we never thought we'd be talking about: Romance! We've both fallen into the romance genre pretty hard lately, so we thought it was about time we had a proper discussion about some of our favourite tropes, authors, and why we keep coming back to it. Show Notes If you told us when we started this podcast that we'd one day dedicate an entire episode to romance, we wouldn't have believed you, but we're so happy to be here. Truly the plot twist we never saw coming. Next episode is our 200th! We can hardly wrap our heads around it. Come hang out with us as we talk about all things Another Book on the Shelf. In keeping with the romance theme, we'll be reading Anderson in Bloom by Jennifer Dugan for our Pride episode.  And we're reading In Her Own League by Liz Tomforde for our next book club discussion, so make sure you read along! We did our best to keep track of everything we talked about, but the list of books and authors mentioned might be incomplete. Books and Authors Mentioned Sophie Kinsella Chloe Gong Rachel Reid Casey McQuiston Emily Henry Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young  Elsie Silver The Most Unusual Haunting of Edgar Lovejoy by Roan Parrish Rules for Ghosting by Shelly Jay Shore Erin Sterling Becka Mack The Windy City Series by Liz Tomforde Paisley Hope Brynne Weaver Rebel Blue Ranch Series by Lyla Sage Ashley Poston Catherine Cowles Canadian Boyfriend by Jenny Holiday Abby Jimenez Carley Fortune Peyton Corrine Chelsea Curto

    198 - Orwell's Roses by Rebecca Solnit

We're getting so close to our 200th episode, but first, we have a book club episode for you. In Episode 198, we're talking about Gen's pick—Orwell's Roses by Rebecca Solnit. Show Notes This book felt extremely relevant to everything happening in the world these days, like oof. Truly so many topics were covered in this book! The rise of Communism and the Soviet Union, the Spanish Civil War, the Carboniferous Era, coal mining, rose production in Colombia, and actually so much more. What a ride. Rebecca Solnit, we are so impressed with the structuring of this book. You can read Orwell's essay, "Politics and the English Language," on the Orwell Foundation website and it is very much worth the read. Don't be surprised if Gen picks Nineteen Eighty-Four as a future book club read. If you follow us on Instagram, you may know that we've fallen down the romance rabbit hole, so we decided that our next episode would be all about the romance genre. After that, it's time for our 200th episode! We still can't believe it.  Our next book club book is Jette's pick, and we're following the romance train still with In Her Own League by Liz Tomforde, which is a spin off of the extremely popular Windy City series.  Other Books and Media Mentioned The Giver by Lois Lowry The Trotsky (2009) By George Orwell: Nineteen Eighty-Four Animal Farm Down and Out in Paris and London Homage to Catalonia By Rebecca Solnit: Men Explain Things to Me Hope In the Dark A Field Guide to Getting Lost The Beginning Comes After the End
