Episode 33: Why You're Exhausted... But Still Can't Sleep

You finally crawl into bed after a long day, completely exhausted... And suddenly, you're wide awake. Or maybe you fall asleep easily, only to wake up at 2 or 3 a.m. and struggle to get back to sleep. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone—and hormones may be only one piece of the puzzle. In this episode, Janell explores why sleep challenges in midlife are often much more complex than we've been led to believe. While changing hormones can certainly influence sleep, your nervous system, blood sugar, digestion, daily rhythms, stress, and even unresolved emotions all play an important role in how well your body rests and recovers. In this episode, Janell discusses: Why being tired doesn't automatically mean your body is ready for sleepHow your nervous system can keep you awake long after the day is overThe connection between blood sugar and waking during the nightWhy meal timing and digestion influence sleep qualityWhat waking between 1–3 a.m. or 3–5 a.m. may indicateWhy sleep supplements don't always solve the problemSimple changes that can support deeper, more restorative sleep If you've been trying all the usual sleep advice but still wake up feeling exhausted, this episode will help you understand the bigger picture and begin looking for patterns instead of quick fixes. Episode 29: Why You Still Feel Stressed Even When the Problem Is Gone

Have you ever solved the problem… but your body still felt stressed? The difficult conversation is over. The deadline has passed. The kids are finally asleep. And yet… You're still anxious. Still tense. Still reaching for food. Still can't seem to relax. If you've ever wondered why that happens, this episode is for you. In this conversation, Janell introduces one of the most important concepts in nervous system healing: the stress cycle. While most of us have been taught how to manage stressors, very few of us have learned how to help our body recover from stress itself. You'll learn the difference between external stressors and your body's biological stress response, why emotional eating is often about nervous system regulation rather than willpower, and practical ways to help your body recognize that the danger has passed. In this episode, Janell discusses: The difference between stressors and stressWhy your body can stay stuck in survival mode long after the problem is overHow emotional eating can become a strategy for regulating your nervous systemThe fight, flight, and freeze responsesWhy completing the stress cycle matters for healingSimple practices that help your body return to safetyWhy healing isn't about eliminating stress—it's about increasing your capacity to move through it This episode continues the conversation from recent episodes exploring the nervous system, mind-body connection, and somatic healing. Episode 28: What Our Dog's Cancer Taught Me About Healing

Sometimes the greatest teachers come with four legs. In this deeply personal episode, Janell shares the story she's been asked to tell for years—the journey of her beloved Goldendoodle, Badger. After receiving a devastating melanoma diagnosis and being told he had just five to six months to live, Janell and Justin found themselves navigating impossible decisions, balancing conventional veterinary medicine with holistic support, and learning what it truly means to live with hope in the face of uncertainty. More than three years later, Badger is celebrating his 14th birthday. This episode isn't about promising outcomes or offering medical advice. It's about what this journey taught Janell about healing, resilience, presence, and the incredible wisdom our animals often bring into our lives. In this episode:• How Badger's cancer was first discovered • The treatment decisions they made and why • Why they chose to integrate conventional and holistic care • The daily practices they've used to support his health • The mindset shift that changed everything • Why you can accept a diagnosis without accepting a prognosis • The lessons this journey continues to teach about gratitude, hope, and living in the present Whether you've experienced a difficult diagnosis, loved someone through illness, or simply understand the bond we share with our pets, this conversation is ultimately about something much bigger than cancer. It's about how we choose to show up for the people—and animals—we love. Thank you for celebrating Badger's journey with us. As always... Have Faith & Take Action.

Episode 27: Food Noise Explained: What It's Really Trying to Tell You

Over the last few years, you've probably heard the term food noise everywhere. But while the name may be new, the experience isn't. For years, women have struggled with cravings, emotional eating, constant thoughts about food, and feeling like they're lacking willpower. In this episode, Janell explores why food noise may not actually be about food at all. You'll learn how under-fueling, blood sugar imbalances, nervous system dysregulation, stress, sleep, highly processed foods, and emotional patterns can all contribute to what we call food noise—and why understanding the message behind the symptom is often more powerful than trying to silence it. Instead of asking, "How do I stop thinking about food?" Janell invites you to ask a different question: "What might my body be trying to tell me?" If you've ever felt stuck in a cycle of cravings or emotional eating, this episode will help you approach your body with more curiosity, compassion, and understanding. In This EpisodeWhat food noise actually isPhysical hunger vs. psychological hungerWhy under-eating often increases cravingsThe connection between blood sugar and food thoughtsHow the nervous system influences emotional eatingWhy sleep and circadian rhythm matterThe role of hyper-palatable foodsA balanced conversation about GLP-1 medicationsWhy food noise is information—not failureResources Mentioned🌿 Hormone Clarity Quiz https://www.thetransformationlife.com/hormonequiz 🌿 Functional Testing https://www.thetransformationlife.com/functional-testing 🌿 Complimentary Health Clarity Call https://www.thetransformationlife.com/schedule/health-clarity-call If this episode encouraged you, please follow the show, leave a review, and share it with someone who could benefit from a new perspective on food and their body. Episode 26: She Tried Every Diet. What Actually Changed Everything? (with Meggie Martin)

What happens when you've tried every diet, every protocol, every workout... and you're still not feeling like yourself? In this special episode of The Transformation Show, Janell sits down with somatic practitioner Meggie Martin for a conversation about the healing journey that transformed her health, relationships, and ultimately the work she does today. After years of chronic stress, digestive issues, emotional eating, burnout, and feeling disconnected from her body, Meggie discovered that the missing piece wasn't another nutrition plan—it was learning how to work with her nervous system instead of against it. Together, Janell and Meggie explore: • Why your body communicates through sensation • The connection between chronic stress and physical symptoms • How emotional eating often becomes a nervous system coping strategy • Why nervous system healing isn't just about calming down • Internal Family Systems (IFS) and understanding the different "parts" of ourselves • How healing transformed Meggie's marriage, parenting, and relationship with herself • Why awareness—not perfection—is often the beginning of lasting change If you've been following the recent episodes of The Transformation Show, this conversation beautifully expands on the themes of nervous system regulation, somatic healing, and learning to trust your body's signals.
