L160: Epstein Files Unleash Political Conspiracies Highlights 主題摘要 The release of the Epstein files has reignited fierce controversy and wild conspiracy theories.Catastrophic redaction failures exposed victim identities, severely damaging public trust in government agencies. The relentless obsession with these files distracts voters and traumatizes the actual victims. The release of the Jeffrey Epstein files has reignited a firestorm of political controversy and wild conspiracy theories across the United States. In early 2026, millions of recently declassified documents were made public, exposing extensive networks of powerful figures. Rather than providing clear answers, the document dump has fueled rampant speculation. Names of high-profile politicians, including former President Bill Clinton and current President Donald Trump, appear frequently in the logs. While the files confirm both men socialized with Epstein decades ago, no concrete evidence of criminal wrongdoing by either leader has officially emerged. Adding fuel to the fire, the chaotic release has severely damaged public trust. The Department of Justice faced intense backlash after catastrophic redaction failures exposed the identities of numerous victims. Online sleuths quickly discovered that blacked-out text could easily be recovered, revealing sensitive information. This staggering incompetence has led to widespread allegations that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the FBI are deliberately manipulating the narrative. Critics argue that the selective exposure of names proves deep-state operatives are orchestrating a massive, coordinated disinformation campaign. President Trump recently addressed the unfolding situation during a highly tense White House press briefing, aggressively pushing back against the mainstream media. When repeatedly pressed by a CNN reporter about the sensitive documents, the president visibly lost his temper. He angrily dismissed the ongoing inquiries as a fabricated witch hunt orchestrated by political enemies, bluntly stating that it was time for the country to move on. Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee has urgently requested the Clintons to testify regarding past associations, guaranteeing more political theater. The unrelenting obsession with these highly classified files highlights a profound sickness within the modern American political landscape. As toxic conspiracy theories continue to mutate and spread unchecked across digital platforms, the actual victims of these horrific crimes are repeatedly traumatized and completely forgotten. Until an independent commission can thoroughly investigate without political interference, the truth will remain buried beneath layers of political spin, leaving society vulnerable. Keyword Drills 關鍵字 Declassified [adjective, having had security classification removed]: Millions of recently declassified documents were made public.Redaction [noun, the process of removing sensitive information from a document before publication]: Catastrophic redaction failures exposed the identities of numerous victims.Fabricated [adjective, invented or produced in order to deceive]: He dismissed the ongoing inquiries as a fabricated witch hunt.Unrelenting [adjective, not yielding in strength, severity, or determination]: The unrelenting obsession with these highly classified files highlights a profound sickness.Interference [noun, the action of getting involved in a situation where you are not wanted]: An independent commission must investigate without political interference. Here is what to know about Asia’s most dangerous weather systems A typhoon is a storm of damaging proportions. Also known as hurricanes across the Atlantic Ocean, the most dangerous weather systems in the Asia-Pacific region are most likely to hit Taiwan from July to October. But, what’s the difference between tropical depressions and super typhoons? There are four types of destructive storms in the Asia-Pacific region which, unlike earthquakes, are somewhat predictable. The tropical depressions — wind speeds of 29 mph (46 kph) or less; the tropical storms — wind speeds between 29 mph (46 kph) and 55.5 mph (89 kph); and, the typhoons, also known as hurricanes — wind speeds between 55.5 mph (89 kph) and 114.5 mph (183 kph). Super Typhoons, which are equivalent to a category 5 storm, have wind speeds greater than 114.5 mph (183 kph). In addition to bringing damaging winds, typhoons can drop incredible amounts of rain. Owing to the mountains running the length of the island, these storms can sometimes drop rain in excess months of regular precipitations. 應該準備什麼?|What should you prepare? In case of a typhoon, you should prepare a disaster supplies kit for home, including a first aid kit and essential medications. Disaster preparedness officials recommend that you have enough food, water, batteries, and other emergency supplies to last at least 1 day. In case of water cuts, think of rushing to a convenience store next door to buy some drinkable water and some instant noodles. 還剩下什麼呢?|What’s more? Remember to charge up electronics, secure extra water and batteries, and fill up your car ahead of the weekend. You can also run a bathtub full of water for a large supply of emergency water, in case the water supply is interrupted. Typhoons are dangerous not only because they can cause bodily injury and damage to property, but strong winds can also knock down power lines and disrupt the water supply. This unusual situation has put pressure on water supply levels in reservoirs around Taiwan. Due to global warming, the typhoons generated in the Pacific Ocean this year have all moved northward, bypassing Taiwan. Although successive fronts and afternoon showers have brought rainfall, it was only fragmented, covering limited areas and did little to replenish reservoirs. As a result, the reservoir storage this year is lower than in previous years. According to the Water Resource Agency, as of 2pm yesterday, the Shihmen Reservoir’s water storage was 44 percent of capacity, the Feicuei Reservoir’s was 62.3 percent and the Zengwen Reservoir’s was 31.3 percent. Two of the three major water reservoirs have less than 50 percent of their water storage capacity. In order to prepare for demand for water next year, the government has decided to implement three measures to control water usage. Firstly, starting from last Wednesday, night water pressure in the Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli areas was to be lowered from 11pm through to 5am the following day. Secondly, the irrigation of some areas of Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli was to be suspended, and farmers affected by the measures will receive government compensation. Thirdly, the Ministry of Economic Affairs is setting up a central drought response center to better respond to the crisis and to distribute water resources according to needs. Taiwanese are advised to take water-saving measures. Source article: https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/lang/archives/2020/10/19/2003745390 Next Article Topic: Wax apples price rise expected due to premature drop caused by weather Wax apples are popular gifts during the Spring Festival season in Taiwan. The fruit’s major producing area is the coastal townships in Pingtung County such as Donggang, Fangliao and Nanjhou. However, since 2016, wax apple production has been affected by adverse weather, including the strongest cold stream for 10 years and the effect of typhoons in 2016. This year’s anticipated bumper harvest never arrived, hampered by the unexpected low temperatures brought by the cold stream early this month. Prices for the popular Spring Festival gift are expected to have increased by the time of the holiday. This year’s first cold stream hit Taiwan in early January. It was initially hoped that wax apples would not be overly affected, but temperatures turned out to be as low as 5 degrees Celsius, as measured by a farmer in Pingtung’s Nanjhou Township. The delayed chilling injury is now in play, resulting in a sharp decrease in production. Even the fruit that survived have blackened spots on their skin, due to the effects of frostbite. The estimated output has dropped by at least 50 percent. The affected batch of wax apples was originally due to be ready to ship in about 1-2 weeks. However, the recent cold stream sent the temperature in southern Taiwan plunging to 9 degrees, and then back up to 27 to 28 degrees when the sun came out. The considerable temperature difference caused serious premature drop in wax apples, by an estimated 30 percent. To prevent further loss, farmers have harvested wax apples and put them on the market, explaining why prices have yet to increase. However, by the time of the Spring Festival, when the supply of wax apples will have fallen dramatically, it is estimated that their price will rise 20-30 percent, making them cost NT$700-800 per kg. This is still less expensive than last year’s price of over NT$1,000 per kg, the result of the strongest cold stream in 10 years.

John老師:「You can learn fast by knowing how not to fail, you succeed faster! 先自覺才知道what to fix, what is the problem, then we will deal with how to fix it! 昨天做的、今天做的、明天做的,我們都會加『昨天』『今天』『明天』,所以習慣性就是『I work yesterday』『I will work tomorrow』,work就是always work!」 ❌ 錯誤3:Will vs Going to - 承諾的差異 阿鍵老師問:「日常生活中聽外國人比較少用will,比較常用going to(gonna),這有什麼關係嗎?」 I will go to Japan this year: 一個commitment、一個promise Pre-planned的東西 John老師:「當老師提醒要念出來時,不是叫你把那個音加重,而是『Remember the syllable, don't skip it!』 S: He work at Google ❌ He works at Google ✅2. Countable and uncountable nouns搞不懂?」 但是...Who Cares? 阿鍵老師:「You care about communication more than the grammar!」 💡 學習心態:一次進步一個錯誤 John老師:「We eliminate one mistake at a time!

L156: Trump's Ultimate Legal Battle Over Global Tariffs Highlights The Supreme Court struck down Trump's emergency tariffs, prompting a rapid shift in his legal strategy. The administration invoked a rare provision in the Trade Act of 1974 to bypass legislative restrictions.Legal scholars warn this statutory maneuvering directly challenges the constitutional separation of powers regarding national taxation. Shortly after the Supreme Court definitively struck down his flagship trade policy, President Donald Trump aggressively retaliated by pivoting to a new legal strategy, announcing a sweeping fifteen percent tariff on global imports. The high court ruled that Trump unconstitutionally bypassed Congress when he previously imposed border taxes using an unprecedented emergency mandate. Infuriated by this legal defeat, the president utilized a different statutory framework to introduce a blanket ten percent levy on Friday, which he suddenly escalated to fifteen percent over the weekend. To circumvent the recent judicial restriction, the administration formally invoked Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. This rarely utilized provision explicitly permits the president to unilaterally implement import restrictions, including tariffs up to fifteen percent, specifically to combat severe national trade deficits. However, this statutory executive authority is strictly limited to one hundred and fifty days unless Congress officially approves an extension. Trump confidently argued this legally tested maneuver provides the executive branch with sufficient power to act decisively. The core of this escalating dispute centers entirely on the constitutional separation of powers regarding taxation. Following the Supreme Court ruling, numerous organizations immediately filed massive lawsuits demanding billions of dollars in refunds for the previously collected exorbitant and unlawful tariffs. Legal scholars emphasize that the US Constitution explicitly grants Congress the exclusive power to lay and collect taxes. By continually seeking obscure statutory loopholes to impose these controversial unilateral duties, the current administration is aggressively challenging the established boundaries of presidential authority and legislative oversight. As the administration vigorously defends its tariff agenda in federal courts, the long-term implications for constitutional law remain highly uncertain. The central legal question is whether the president can continuously repurpose emergency powers and outdated trade statutes to bypass legislative approval. With the statutory deadline rapidly approaching, this intense legal showdown is essentially guaranteeing a historic constitutional crisis and unparalleled economic turbulence. Ultimately, this relentless regulatory warfare highlights a profound institutional struggle over the fundamental limits of executive power in modern American governance. Retaliate [verb, to perform an action in return for a perceived injury or wrong]: President Donald Trump aggressively retaliated by announcing a sweeping tariff.Circumvent [verb, to find a way around an obstacle or legal restriction]: The administration invoked the act to circumvent the recent judicial restriction.Unilaterally [adverb, in a way that involves doing something without the agreement of others]: This legal provision explicitly permits the president to unilaterally implement import restrictions.Exorbitant [adjective, describing a price or amount that is unreasonably high]: Economists warn that these exorbitant import costs will simply be passed down to everyday citizens.Turbulence [noun, a state of confusion, violence, or disorder]: Global markets eagerly brace for unparalleled economic turbulence. But with more farmers exploring the field, this soon could change. Next Article Topic: Climate change exposes future generations to life-long health harm A child born today faces multiple and life-long health harms from climate change, growing up in a warmer world with risks of food shortages, infectious diseases, floods and extreme heat, a major global study has found. Climate change is already harming people’s health by increasing the number of extreme weather events and exacerbating air pollution, according to the study published in The Lancet medical journal. And if nothing is done to mitigate it, its impacts could burden an entire generation with disease and illness throughout their lives. “Children are particularly vulnerable to the health risks of a changing climate. Their bodies and immune systems are still developing, leaving them more susceptible to disease and environmental pollutants,” said Nick Watts, who co-led the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change study. He warned that health damage in early childhood is “persistent and pervasive,” and carries lifelong consequences. “Without immediate action from all countries to cut greenhouse gas emissions, gains in wellbeing and life expectancy will be compromised, and climate change will come to define the health of an entire generation,” he told a London briefing. Yet introducing policies to limit emissions and cap global warming would see a different outcome, the research teams said. In that scenario, a child born today, would see an end to coal use in Britain, for example, by their sixth birthday, and the world reaching net-zero emissions by the time they were 31. The Lancet study is a collaboration by 120 experts from 35 institutions including the WHO, the World Bank, University College London and China’s Tsinghua University. On a “business-as-usual” pathway, with little action to limit climate change, it found that amid rising temperatures and extreme weather events, children would be vulnerable to malnutrition and rising food prices, and the most likely to suffer from warmer waters and climates accelerating the spread of infectious diseases such as dengue fever and cholera. Among the most immediate and long-lasting health threats from climate change is air pollution, the researchers said. They called for urgent action to reduce outdoor and indoor pollution through the introduction of cleaner fuels and vehicles, and policies to encourage safe and active transport such as walking and cycling. The WHO says that globally in 2016, seven million deaths were due to the effects of household and ambient air pollution. The vast majority of these were in low and middle-income countries. “If we want to protect our children, we need to make sure the air they breathe isn’t toxic,” said Sonja Ayeb-Karlsson, a global health specialist at Britain’s Sussex University who worked on the Lancet study. Source article: http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/lang/archives/2019/11/17/2003725971/2 Next Article Topic: Physics Nobel rewards work on climate change, other forces Three scientists won the Nobel Prize in physics Tuesday last week for work that found order in seeming disorder, helping to explain and predict complex forces of nature, including expanding our understanding of climate change. Syukuro Manabe, originally from Japan, and Klaus Hasselmann of Germany were cited for their work in developing forecast models of Earth’s climate and “reliably predicting global warming.” The second half of the prize went to Giorgio Parisi of Italy for explaining disorder in physical systems, ranging from those as small as the insides of atoms to the planet-sized. Hasselmann told the Associated Press that he “would rather have no global warming and no Nobel Prize.” Calling climate change “a major crisis,” Manabe said that figuring out the physics behind climate change was “1,000 times” easier than getting the world to do something about it. All three scientists work on what are known as “complex systems,” of which climate is just one example. But the prize went to two fields of study that are opposite in many ways, though they share the goal of making sense of what seems random and chaotic so that it can be predicted. The research of Parisi, of Sapienza University of Rome, largely centers around subatomic particles, predicting how they move in seemingly chaotic ways and explaining why. It is somewhat esoteric, while the work by Manabe and Hasselmann is about large-scale global forces that shape our daily lives. Parisi “built a deep physical and mathematical model” that made it possible to understand complex systems in fields as different as mathematics, biology, neuroscience
