Matthew Heines, the host and creator of the show is an author and a teacher who started life as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne before he went on to earn his degrees in Washington State and Alaska.     Dad Shot Bigfoot — Then Bandaged It | Encounters USA

    FULL SHOW NOTES On this episode of Encounters USA, Matthew Heines shares an interview collected during Bigfoot patrol in the Southern Olympic Mountains. A local woman says her father was sighting in a rifle before a hunt when he accidentally shot a young Bigfoot about a hundred yards out. He didn't know anything was there until he heard the scream. He thought he had hit a human. The wound was through-and-through in the shoulder. The creature was small — about the height of a teenage girl. He ran for medical supplies. When he returned, a much larger individual stood at the edge of the yard and watched. Protective. Still. It allowed him to treat the young one. He drew the moon in the dirt with a stick and told them to come back in two days. She says the big one nodded. They did come back, for roughly a week and a half. Under the bandage he kept finding moss and chewed plant material — a home remedy that seemed to close the wound faster. When the visits stopped, fruit appeared on the front porch in little handmade baskets. He told his wife it was "just a friend." The kids rolled their eyes. She stopped rolling her eyes the night she got off a midnight shift in Hoquiam, slowed down for what she thought was a hitchhiker, and realized the figure had no clothes, was covered in fur, and stood taller than her lifted four-door dually. Her girlfriend later saw three of them — male, female, and child — on Ocean Beach Road near Aloha. Her granddaughter's family hit a whole group on a trail to the beach near Taholah and ran.
