    A Distinct Accent | Acts 11:19-30 | June 21, 2026

A Distinct Accent Acts 11:19-30 Teacher: Pastor Tommy Bailey Date: June 21, 2026 In Acts 11:19-30, the gospel reaches Syrian Antioch, the third-largest city in the ancient world. Believers scattered by persecution arrived, speaking the name of Jesus, and the hand of the Lord was with them. Something about their words and their lives set them apart, a spiritual accent the city had never heard. Their way of life was so unusual that the pagan city of Antioch had no category for them. Likely as a derogatory term, believers were called Christiansfor the first time. Join Pastor Tommy as we consider what made this young church so unique: what they said, how they lived, and who they turned to. These believers were so captured by Jesus that their whole way of life pointed to another home. 2. When Religion Gets in the Way | Acts 11:1-18 | June 14, 2026

When Religion Gets in the Way | Acts 11:1-18 | June 14, 2026

When Religion Gets in the Way Acts 11:1-18 Teacher: Pastor Tom Yarbrough Date: June 14, 2026 As we continue the narrative of the conversion of Cornelius the Gentile and his household, the final scene takes place back in Jerusalem, where not everyone in the church is pleased with Peter’s mission to Caesarea. We are introduced to a group of strict Jewish believers, known as the ”circumcision party”, who take exception with Peter’s fellowship with Gentiles, whom they consider unclean. This group identifies themselves primarily through their own adherence to Jewish custom rather than their new life in Christ. Peter’s response is to give a reasonable and orderly defense that not only shares the new spiritual vision he has been given but also leaves no room for doubt that this movement is the work of the Holy Spirit as confirmed by the words of Jesus himself. How can this passage encourage us today when we too may be tempted to cling to any identity other than a gospel identity? Join Pastor Tom Yarbrough as we study through Acts 11:1-18 together. 3. Built Up and Growing Up | Acts 9:31-43 | May 31, 2026

    Built Up and Growing Up | Acts 9:31-43 | May 31, 2026

Acts 9:31-43 Teacher: Pastor Tommy Bailey  Date: May 31, 2026 In Acts 9:31–43, Luke pauses to take the pulse of the early church, and he reveals a flourishing community: at peace, being built up, walking in the fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and multiplying. Then he takes us to two bedsides. In Lydda, Peter heals a paralyzed man in the name of Jesus. In Joppa, a beloved disciple named Tabitha has died, and Peter kneels, prays, and calls her back to life. Two towns witness the power of the risen Christ, and they turn to the Lord. Join Pastor Tommy as we trace two movements of the Spirit in this passage: a church being built up and disciples growing up. Jesus keeps his promise to build his church, working through Peter and through the quiet, costly mercy of a woman known for her needle and thread. Growing in the likeness of Christ is not something impressive or polished, but a life slowly transformed by walking in the fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. 4. The Mission of the Spirit | Acts 8:1-25 | May 10, 2026

    The Mission of the Spirit | Acts 8:1-25 | May 10, 2026

The Mission of the Spirit Acts 8:1-25 Teacher: Pastor Tommy Bailey Date: May 10, 2026 Before Jesus ascended, He promised His disciples that the Holy Spirit would empower them to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. In Acts 8:1-25, we arrive at a turning point in that mission. After the martyrdom of Stephen, fierce persecution in Jerusalem scatters the church, and what should have ended the mission instead ignites it. The gospel breaks into Samaria, a region long held in spiritual darkness and separated from the rest of Israel by nearly a thousand years of ethnic and religious bigotry from both Jews and Samaritans. There Philip preaches Christ, demons flee, the broken are healed, and the city is filled with joy. Join Pastor Tommy as we walk through this turn in the story by considering four figures: Saul the persecutor, Philip the refugee evangelist, the Samaritans longing for hope, and Simon Magus, the magician who craved power. In each of them we see something of the Spirit's mission to point people to Jesus, to convict of sin, to comfort the weary, and to renew the most unlikely heart.
