Episode 12: Report from Telluride

In this episode Chris talks about his skiing trip to Telluride, Colorado, and how things changed with how he used to eat when making the trip with his friends to how they ALL ate this time. Chris also noticed differences in his strength and stamina since eating Keto, and he reached his goal weight for the trip. YAY CHRIS! Episode 6: Oh, God! I'm Doing Math Again!

In this episode Granny Keto works one-on-one with Chris to explain macros. He is planning a ski trip to Telluride and is concerned about skiing at such a high altitude and now that he is used to Keto concepts, he is ready to buckle down and look at his macros. The general percentage of these macros (based on weight and body composition) is 5% total carbs (which usually comes to 20 grams), 20–25% protein (for a guy this comes to 80–100 grams), and then 70–75% fat. This usually figures at a rate of fat being 1.5 to 2 times the grams of protein. In other words, if you are eating 80 grams of protein, your intake of fat will be 120–160 grams. On Chris’ skiing trip he might eat up to three times the fat, or even increase his protein intake so that his body will be nourished as it needs to be; he can probably even go up a bit on the carbs with no effect on his ketosis. In this podcast we talk about Amy and Chris’ recent trip to Edinburgh. They talked about the food and drink there (and had a few good laughs over the dish called haggis — traditionally made in a sheep’s stomach) and what their experience was with balancing food, drink and activity. They also did their assignment and found out that, indeed, Scotch Eggs are a dish from Scotland! Episode 1: How I Became Granny Keto

Welcome! This is the first episode of Chewing the Fat with Granny Keto. I am Miriam Hatoum, also known as "Granny Keto." I am a wife, mother, and grandmother of two — and also a lifelong dieter. For years I was scolded by doctors and was never believed to be following diet advice — a horrible cycle that started when I was just 13 years old! Listening to Gary Taubes’s Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It, was my lightbulb moment, when for the first time I realized that the food itself was keeping me fat all these years and it was not my fault. I began Keto that day and never looked back. As a certified nutritional coach, I address the needs and concerns of older men, women and couples who are either doing Keto or are working on steps towards Keto through my Granny Keto Transitions Program™. Through my website, course, books, YouTube channel and personal coaching, I offer help to navigate the waters of starting a Ketogenic diet.
