What does it take to defend a nation surrounded by enemies? What does it mean to dedicate more than three decades of your life to fighting terrorism? And why does one of Israel's most experienced counterterrorism experts believe that Israel is fighting not only for its own survival—but for the security of the entire world? In this extraordinary and deeply revealing episode of 'The Avrum Rosensweig Show', we welcome Lieutenant Colonel Yair Marton, a veteran Israeli military officer, counterterrorism specialist, international strategic adviser, crisis negotiator, and tactical consultant to the internationally acclaimed Netflix series Fauda. Yair is no ordinary soldier. For decades, he has operated in a world where hesitation can cost lives, where leadership is tested under unimaginable pressure, and where the difference between success and catastrophe can come down to a single decision. His expertise has taken him from Israel's elite military units to advising governments, world leaders, security professionals, and major corporations across the globe. Yair, is a a deeply thoughtful man—a husband, a father, a student of philosophy, and a passionate lover of Israel, its people, its history, and its land. In this compelling conversation, we explore: October 7 and its aftermath: How the Hamas-led attacks transformed Israel and, in Yair's assessment, reshaped the Middle East. Israel's war against terrorism: Why Yair believes Israel's fight extends far beyond its borders and has profound consequences for the entire world. The Holocaust and Jewish survival. The extraordinary training of Israel's elite soldiers: Gruelling physical and psychological challenges, and how military service creates an almost spiritual connection to the land of Israel. Behind the scenes of Netflix's Fauda. The Torah as a guide to modern life: Why this battle-hardened military officer turns to the ancient wisdom of the Jewish people for answers to contemporary challenges, negotiations, and leadership dilemmas. The psychology of courage: What it takes to make life-and-death decisions, manage crises, confront fear, and lead when others hesitate. Israel and the world's perception of it: Yair's forceful response to international criticism, antisemitism, and accusations directed at the Jewish state. One of the most moving moments of our conversation comes when Yair describes what he tells his children when they ask why, after so many years, he is still fighting. His answer reaches back to the Holocaust, to the generations of Jews who were murdered without the means to defend themselves, and to the extraordinary responsibility he believes today's Israelis carry. For Yair Marton, defending Israel is not simply a military obligation. It is a privilege, a responsibility, and a deeply personal mission. This is more than a conversation about war. It is a conversation about courage, Jewish identity, historical memory, the extraordinary bond between a people and their homeland, and the price of defending freedom. Whether you support Israel, question its policies, or simply want to understand the complexities of the Middle East through the eyes of someone who has spent his life confronting them, this is an interview worth watching.
