Join me as I talked to Rob Ward from Quad Lock about life starting a product that is now shipping around the world and firmly established within the cycling market. How did he grow this product from just a kickstarter campaign to now having a worldwide distribution within around five years.

Rob shares his passion for growing The Quad Lock business into all at different product expansions plus the challenges of being an entrepreneur in the space that constantly requires you to move forward and innovate to stay ahead.

How did they create this product? How did they think about it? and how did they make sure it would work? Plus Rob gives us his thoughts on pushing ourselves with an idea on how to move forward and gain momentum.

I’m now in Perth, having cycled from Sydney to Perth over the last few months, taking my time and enjoying the company of the welcoming people along the way. I’ll be sharing that story in the next episode of the podcast.

    DotWatcher.cc with Editor Grace Lambert-Smith

Grace, from DotWatcher.cc, talks with me about the ultra racing scene, it’s growth, the difference between bikepacking and touring and the furore that surrounded Lael Wilcox Tour Divide participation.
    Who is Grace Lambert-Smith?
Grace is the kind of rider who says she hates hills yet constantly finds herself at the top of them having created a route she thought was benign. No stranger to long-distance, you'll find her taking part in Audax UK events, cycle-touring around Europe and venturing around her local hills in the Peak District, UK.
Her 2019 goal is to ride Paris-Brest-Paris.
DotWatcher is the home for the best insight, analysis, and conversation from around the bikepacking community, published alongside everything needed to follow the action of the world’s biggest races.

Hayden tackles Silk Road Mountain Race

Hayden tackles Silk Road Mountain Race

On my visit to Melbourne I met up with Hayden, Brand Manager at The Pedla, to talk about this huge bikepacking race he is about to compete in. He shares all his insights before going into a race that needs preparation well beyond a few fitness drills. This is absolute meticulous planning, from the Terra Nova custom sleeping bag to training for uphill laden bikepacking workouts!

    Show Notes: https://pedalingpodcast.com/podcast/hayden-talks-bikepacking-silk-road-race

The Silk Road Mountain Race is a fixed route, unsupported, single-stage cycling race through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. The clock does not stop and there are no prizes. It follows gravel, single and double track and old soviet roads that have long been forgotten and fallen into disrepair. There is very little tarmac. There is some walking, and at times there is great distances between resupply points..

I sat down in Sydney to catch up with the pair that first set out creating something different. They share their ideas on the future, how they manage growing and also maintaining a strong connection with the community.

    Sydney to Canberra - Day 1 - 3 Bikepacking

When I started the trip from Sydney, I set out with an open mind as to what I should expect. WIth that, I also put together a series of audio to document the trip. This is a first for me and hope I’m able to share this documentation as I go. It’s more of a personal insight into my journey that has a lot of highs and lows. Check out the NEW daily journal at http://www.pedalingpodcast.com for images and diary notes from each day.
