    Re-Recording & Mastering

    ANYWAY…this week we are talking about a new trend that we have been noticing in the industry; re-recording, and releasing, older material. This isn’t anything new, we’ve seen it throughout music history, especially when it comes to alternate versions such as acoustic albums, orchestral collaborations and mash ups. The most prominent example of this may be Taylor Swift re-recording her catalogue due to contractual reasons. However, we’ve seen 3 albums re-released in 3 different ways, just this year alone. And, that’s only on our radar, let alone all the examples that are not on our radar.     Agony Aunt 2

    Apologies that we’re a day late, it’s been a week…let’s just say that!  Rather than a guest, or Between The Lines, we thought that this week we would dive into a topic that has circulated around our ether, and social culture, recently. We often pick up on the mood of independent artists and how things are impacting our collective consciousness through the artists with whom we work, as well as our own consumption of media and what is permitting through the culture. And, in the past, when we have seen potentially damaging trends, we’ve felt like we should cast some clarity on the reality, based on our own experiences, of course. And, even though we don’t proclaim to have all the answers, we hope that we shed a different perspective on what it means to be an artist living in the world today, rather than the narrative of a super star story, making millions of dollars around the globe right now. He’s a unique voice who is constantly adapting and changing his sound in a way that makes sense for him as an artist. These changes are subtle but as we discuss, have a big impact on his creative scope and longevity.     Between The Lines: MEEK - Fabulous

    After a few weeks off, we’re back with something F*****g Fabulous. This week’s track is, indeed, F*****g Fabulous by MEEK. This is a great track with so much to talk about, from an artist who seems to be doing things in the way that so many other independent artists do.     This week, we’re continuing our theme of using an artist’s recent release as a jumping off point to discuss the recent developments in their careers and, how that affects the wider industry. Labrinth is a producer, composer, songwriter, artist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist…one of them. He’s from the UK and has had a very interesting career up to this point. However, the recent news of him leaving as the composer of Euphoria Season 3, along with his posts about being “out”, of the industry, feeds into similar themes to the last episode.
