011 The Best Songs of 2000-2018: #20-1

We've made it all the way to our top 20, so it's time for us to count down the very best songs of the 2000s. In this episode, Mantz gets a crash course in Ween, we learn the true meaning of Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You," and chat about just how much Common loves A.I. Then, Matt tells us about the most expensive album stream of all-time, and follows it up with a good story told in a terrible way, while Bob learns the difference between a harp and a harpsichord (or does he?) and tells us about his celebrity encounter at a Los Angeles drug store. Why did Matt get fired for Andrew W.K.? What is Radiohead's best album? Why didn't we let The Libertines save rock and roll? It's time for the top 20 songs of the 2000s! 010 The Best Songs of 2000-2018: #40-21

We're still counting down the best songs of the 2000s and we've almost made it to the end! But we've got miles to go before we sleep, plenty of songs to count down, and even more stories to share. In this episode, we welcome the return of Mr. Hands, Bob regales us with his bounce ball story, and Matt (at long last?) learns how to pronounce Bon Iver. We also learn about the dark history of Guy Hebert, imagine life as one of Michael Stipe's grocery boys, and realize Matt has a fascination with old people dying. Did Blackalicious prompt us to create our March Madness bracket this year? Is Sun Kil Moon the singer/songwriter version of Twitter? Will Mantz listen to music that doesn't sound good to his ears? Listen and find out as we ease our way out of songs #40-21 of the 2000s! Want to have one of us show up to your home or place of employ while reeking of gin? 009 The Best Songs of 2000-2018: #60-41

We're halfway through counting down the best songs of the 2000s, and -- finally -- the pizza is here! In this episode, we talk about Colter Wall and the culture wall and culture war, Outkast's history of writing songs with "party lines," fearing the age of irony, and getting los tin art when you don't have any friends. We wonder if the Libertines could have saved rock 'n' roll (if only we'd love them enough), while Mantz admits an instant snub, and we all wonder: are we hating on moms? Prop your feet up (because falling in love is hard on the knees) and listen to us talk about the band we're surprised never did a Bond song, the endless summer (powered by asbestos!), and... wait a minute, is Mantz trading stocks? It's time for an all-new episode of Tub Talk! "It's hard to rank art, but I think I nailed it." - Bob Want to have one of us show up to your home or place of employ while reeking of gin? 008 The Best Songs of 2000-2018: #80-61

Our march through the best songs of the 2000s continues! In this episode, we share our real thoughts on Pitchfork’s reviews (and, specifically, its retroactive changes to past scores), reflect back on Bob’s depressed days spent in Los Angeles, and wonders: Does Dave dig it? We also discuss the most underappreciated pop artist of our era, Joey reads some rap lyrics, and Matt decides to audit Bob in whatever way you find appropriate. There’s also an ongoing theme of pizza in this episode, as Matt wants to open a shop called "Women’s Pizza" and all Joey wants to do is order food. So check out dadrockfunnybone.com, prepare yourself for the return of Mr. Hands, and get ready to learn all about the secret origin of Death Cab for Cutie — as well as the birds and the bees — on an all-new episode of Tub Talk! 007 The Best Songs of 2000-2018: #100-81

Fresh off our countdown of the 100 greatest songs of the 1980s and 1990s, it's time to talk about the best songs of the 2000s... so far! In this episode, we talk about the true (sinister?!) nature of Greta Van Fleet, do some moral grandstanding while listening to a diss track, begin (or continue?) the Sep Tub Book Club, and discuss the unlikely bond shared by Paris Hilton and Kevin James. Bob talks about his karate battle against Jon Bon Jovi's wife, his one-man war against Susan Sarandon, and why he thinks Hot Hot Heat is the 30 Rock of bands. Is there any doubt why he's bound to be the breakout star of this podcast? Want to have one of us show up to your home or place of employ while reeking of gin? 006 The Best Songs of 1980-1999: The Snubs and Flubs

You’ve heard us count down the best songs of the 1980s and 1990s, so now it’s time for us to apologize for what we got wrong… and what we forgot about altogether. In this episode, we finally get to the bottom of what Metallica album the song “Battery” is on (or do we?), try to figure out what the difference between a snub and a flub actually is, and witness the rise of El Tub Talk. Matt talks about how it’s possible that he left his favorite song of all-time off his list, Mantz talks about what should happen to Robert Kraft, and Bob talks bout how the 90s were a weird time for music. Also, we discuss how maybe the greatest band of this era was almost fully snubbed, while certain songs were left off Matt’s list because he didn’t want to play them in front his kids. Also, things get serious as we discuss the application of filters and the lenses through which we view nostalgia, as it relates to music. 005 The Best Songs of 1980-1999: #20-1

It’s been three episodes — and more than five months — but we’re finally able to share the final score in a game in the 2018 ALCS! We’re closing out our discussion of the best songs of the 1980s and 1990s by sharing our 20 favorite songs each. In this episode, we discuss what adult radio REALLY is, finally address the villain hanging over this entire run of songs, and pour one out for the pocket rockers of yesteryear. Also, we talk about the Michael Jackson and Madonna songs that prompted near-religious experiences. Tune in as we count down to number one! 004 The Best Songs of 1980-1999: #40-21

Last episode, we offered some 2018 ALCS updates. Today, we've got more! (Come back next episode for the final score... or just check Google, I guess.) In this episode, we continue to count down the best songs of the 1980s and 1990s while we discuss "the Morrissey Divide," try to figure out what Tom Petty's songs are REALLY about, and talk about the most underrated rapper of all-time. We also offer up what may be the best endorsement of The Flaming Lips (from a non-fan) of all-time, debate what the "Freebird" of our generation is, and talk about the rise in popularity of recycling in the 1990s. Last but not least, we determine the familial lineage of Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation. Want to have one of us show up to your home or place of employ while reeking of gin? 003 The Best Songs of 1980-1999: #60-41

Things are getting hot as we continue to count down the best songs of the 1980s and 1990s. In this episode, we get updates on the 2018 American League Championship Series (closing out that cliffhanger from last episode's NLCS update!), find out who Mantz would be if he was given the choice to be any person, and wonder what David Lee Roth's middle name is. We also compare TLC to Paul McCartney, discuss a song that may be the sexiest song ever written, and hit our first song that made it to all three of our lists, which means it's a slam dunk unanimously great song... or does it? On the flip side of that coin, we talk about the song that almost sunk all of Guns N' Roses forever, and Bob shares his choice for the funniest tweet of all-time. (You're just going to have to trust him on this one.) Want to have one of us show up to your home or place of employ while reeking of gin? Visit our Patreon page at patreon.com/cageclub.

002 The Best Songs of 1980-1999: #80-61

The Tub is bubblin’ and we’re back for another batch of the best songs of the 1980s and 1990s! In this episode, we share live updates on the 2018 National League Championship Series (which, yes, happened four months ago), discuss why Guns N’ Roses Twitter is the best Twitter, and talk about how much Cake loves Cake. We also pay homage to Blake Snoreburger (People’s Sexiest Man Alive), Matt offers up an impassioned defense of the Dan Aykroyd film Nothing But Trouble, and we officially enter the Prince portion and R.E.M. portion of this countdown. But wait, there’s more! We also discuss the band that’s the most “anti-emo,” remember rapping along to censored versions of songs, Bob misunderstands a Rambo joke, and Matt digs deep into the trenches of his memory to recall Mad Magazine parodies from long ago. 001 The Best Songs of 1980-1999: #100-81

Welcome to the first official Tub Talk! Over the next five episodes, we're counting down the best songs of the 1980s and 1990s and putting pop culture in its proper order. Bob, Matt, and Tom each ranked their 100 favorite songs from these two decades, and we're sharing our lists and working our way through them in groups of five. First up: songs #100-#81. In this episode, we wonder where the duet girl from Meat Loaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is (and what she's up to now), why Pantera hates books as much as they do, if Dr. Dre thanks his producer every time he begins to rap, what the world's worst alarm clock would sound like, and what song Tom wants to walk down the aisle to. Spoiler: his answer may surprise you! Want to have one of us show up to your home or place of employ while reeking of gin? Visit our Patreon page at patreon.com/cageclub.
