Thoughtful, allegorical fantasy
If you were to mash up the dreamy timeless allegorical journeys of Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist with Guillermo Del Toro’s love of outcast monsters, you’d probably get something like this audio drama. Because it’s a friendship that begins from a place of great kindness, it’s one of the most touching relationships I’ve had the pleasure to listen to. And few scenes have had me rooting so strongly for the characters to succeed as the in episode 5. There’s some missed opportunities to expand on the new mythology that’s been created and the convenient coincidences start to pile up at the end. But I think this audio drama is unique in an increasingly crowded-samey field.
