In Refinery29’s Money Diaries, we ask women to share their salary, their take home pay, and their monthly expenses. The series always brings up more questions than answers: Why is she putting so much into retirement? Why can’t she afford a vacation? Why do commenters hate it when diarists let boyfriends pay for the check? In the podcast, we set out to answer those questions. Every episode, a diarist calls in with a money dilemma, question, or awkward situation, and our hosts help them figure it out all – without freaking out about their finances.

LOVE BUT...

I was so excited when this podcast came out. My friend introduced me to the blog a few months ago and I haven’t stopped reading ever since! I’m a little disappointed in the podcast because most of the incomes have been super high and I don’t think represents a diverse group of incomes and career paths. It has really just focused on extremely high incomes and people have had no debt because of their parents?? I enjoyed reading the blog because it wasn’t only people who make $100,000+/yr. I love life hacks and learning financial tips, but this just lost me.

Keeping it Real

It is great to hear these stories so that people don’t feel alone in their own financial journeys/struggles. Would love to hear more stories about single women and/or women who help their family(parents, siblings)financially as can be common in some cultures, recent graduates, students in grad school, etc.
