The Book on Fire Podcast

I do not think I would have gotten through the dawn of everything, or gotten nearly as much out of it if not for this podcast, I really appreciate the time and dedication they put into this podcast and I’m so glad I found this.

I’ve learned so much from this podcast as a companion to reading the Dawn of Everything and have gained a lot from digesting the text with additional context provided in this show. BUT there’s a huge irony to them discussing how patriarchy is one of the great original oppressions in a podcast where Dave regularly speaks over Janet. In one of the final episodes with a male guest she barely has a chance to speak at all which is a huge shame because I found her insights consistently more thought provoking. Let’s see a Janet only season please!

I can’t rave enough about the way they’ve been discussing The Dawn of Everything. The hosts do a great job of summarizing and pulling apart each chapter, often following sources cited in the book or others. They offer an insightful and nuanced critique of how the authors make their arguments. AFAIK they’re not experts but educated lay people deeply engaged with the work. Makes me want to read another of the books they’ve been discussion. Ad free and many hours of work go into each ep so send them anything you can.

I listen to this while reading Caliban and the Witch. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I have recommended it to so many people. This should be required learning for the United States and the rest of the Global North.
