    220. Behind the Retainly Launch: Our 30% Webinar Conversion Rate + What I’d Do Differently

What happens when you stop treating a webinar like a webinar…and turn it into an actual online PARTY? For the official Retainly reveal, I did something completely different from the legal webinars and online masterclasses I usually teach. No traditional slide deck. No script. And you guys—it resulted in a 30% conversion rate. But I don’t want to give you only the shiny highlight reel, because what happened AFTER the webinar was a whole other story. In this episode, I’m taking you behind the scenes of our seven-week sprint to launch Retainly, what we changed about the webinar experience, the launch issues we absolutely did not anticipate, and what this growth is teaching me about building a tech company without running my team into the ground. Tune in to hear: The simple shift that turned a traditional webinar into an “online party” and why it workedWhy I ditched the slide deck AND the script for this launchThe behind-the-scenes launch hiccup that had me devastated right after the webinarThe big launch lesson Paige learned about who needs to be on standby when things go sidewaysWhat I would change about the way our team handles the next big launchThe biggest lessons I'm taking into Retainly’s next stage of growthWatch the webinar replay: https://getretainly.com/reveal-replay  Grab your founding member spot: https://getretainly.com/foundingmember  Additional Links and Resources: Need 1:1 legal support for your business? https://griffithsuazolaw.com/   Join the TLP Facebook Community, a safe space to ask any questions related to the law or your business: https://tlpfacebook.com/  Visit The Legal Paige for contract templates, blogs, and additional legal resources: https://thelegalpaige.com/  Follow me on Instagram: instragram.com/thelegalpaige

    219. Was Create & Cultivate Worth It? My Sponsor Recap + Biggest Lessons Learned

I just got back from Los Angeles after sponsoring the Create & Cultivate Festival with Retainly, and whew… we need to debrief. If you saw the conversations happening online after the festival, you probably already know there were some BIG opinions about the attendee experience—especially after Saturday. And after sharing behind-the-scenes content from our Retainly booth, my DMs started filling up with questions: Was it worth it? What actually happened? Would I sponsor Create & Cultivate again? So I’m giving you the full recap. In this episode, I’m taking you behind the booth to explain why we decided to sponsor the festival, what our Small Business Marketplace experience actually looked like, what went really well, what went sideways, and the lessons my team and I are taking into our next event. And because this is the Legally Legit Podcast, you KNOW I’m also putting on my lawyer hat. We’re talking sponsorship agreements, promised deliverables, VIP experiences, health and safety considerations, and why your marketing and contracts need to match what you actually deliver. Tune in to hear: How we approached a tiny four-by-two-foot booth as a digital and tech-based businessThe “sick swag” and $1,000+ giveaways that brought people to our boothWhy I’d seriously consider ditching the QR-code-only strategy next timeWhat happened when our booth location changed after setupThe check-in, heat, food, bathroom, seating, and internet issues we saw on SaturdayWhy bags, fans, useful swag, clear handouts, and visible social handles are now on my must-have listThe social media opportunity I completely missed with our swag strategyWhy face-to-face networking still felt unmatched despite the challengesWhether I’d sponsor Create & Cultivate againThe legal questions sponsors and vendors should ask before signing an event agreementWhy advertised VIP benefits and actual deliverables matterWhy waivers and liability language don’t replace planning for attendees’ basic safetyThe importance of making sure your marketing, contracts, and actual client experience line upAdditional Links and Resources: 👉 Try Retainly free for 30 days at getretainly.com. 218. Hiring UGC Creators? Contracts, Usage Rights, Revisions + More

This year, I did something I had never done before in my business: I hired a whole batch of people to create user-generated content for Retainly. But instead of looking for polished, full-time UGC creators, we intentionally went to people who were already genuinely using Retainly in their businesses. I wanted content that wasn’t scripted, overly produced, or salesy. I wanted real users talking about their actual experience. And I still stand by that decision. But hiring people who don’t create UGC professionally comes with a learning curve. I learned very quickly that things I thought were obvious (where to look when recording on your phone, how many takes to film, what raw footage to send, and how specific the creative brief needs to be) weren’t obvious at all. And then, of course, there was the lawyer side of the equation. Because regardless of whether you’re hiring a professional UGC creator, a micro-influencer, or one of your actual customers to create content for your brand, you need to be VERY clear about the legal terms surrounding that content. Inside this episode, I cover: Why we chose real Retainly users instead of polished professional UGC creatorsWhy clarity on the front end made the content we received dramatically more usableThe simple camera direction that made videos feel warmer and more personalWhy I started asking creators to record three takes instead of oneWhy continuous raw footage can give a business more hooks, CTAs, and usable clipsWhy casual Instagram Stories became some of the highest-value content we receivedHow I approached the initial call and creative strategy with each creatorWhy every UGC relationship should have a written contractHow to address revision rounds before the creator starts recordingWhy licensing and usage rights need to specify exactly where and how the content can be usedThe difference between purchasing content outright and licensing it for a specific periodWhy the contract should clearly define the term of your usage rightsExclusivity, whitelisting, territory, renewals, termination, and kill feesWhy disclosure requirements for paid, sponsored, affiliate, or gifted content also belong in the contractLinks & Resources Get the UGC Creator Contract here Follow Jessi Jean: https://www.instagram.com/jessijeanhome Additional Links and Resources: 👉 Try Retainly free for 30 days at getretainly.com. 217. AI Legal Risks for Small Business Owners: Disclosures, Client Data & ChatGPT Evidence

AI is everywhere in business right now. You can use it to brainstorm, edit, research, draft copy, build itineraries, create mood boards, sort through information, and streamline your workflow.  But there’s a legal side of AI that isn’t getting nearly as much attention. This episode is really an extension of our last conversation. We are zooming out a bit to look more broadly at how AI is impacting you, your business, your contracts, your creative work, and even your personal life. What happens when AI-generated work ends up in your portfolio? What if a client uploads the photos, templates, course materials, or other creative work you delivered into an AI platform? What happens when you paste confidential client information into a consumer AI tool? And what about everything you’re casually typing into ChatGPT or Claude? In this episode, I’m breaking down the AI issues I’m watching unfold in real time, and why small business owners need to start treating AI use as a contract, copyright, confidentiality, and evidence issue. In this episode, I cover: Why your portfolio is a legal representation of your work and why you need to think carefully about how AI-assisted or AI-generated work is presented. The copyright issues that can arise when someone takes another creator’s work and feeds it into an AI platform without permission. Why I believe businesses using AI in their client work need clear, written AI disclosure language.Where AI disclosure language belongs in your client contract and website terms and conditions. Why your contract also needs to address what clients can and cannot do with the work you deliver. Why course creators and template sellers should pay especially close attention to AI-related intellectual property language. The confidentiality concerns that arise when you paste client information, proprietary materials, contact information, or unreleased assets into consumer AI tools. Why AI conversations are not protected by attorney-client privilege. How the same concerns can extend beyond your business into personal, financial, relationship, parenting, and other sensitive conversations.Five practical AI-related areas I want every business owner to audit right now.Links & Resources Grab The Legal Paige AI disclaimer clauses here Additional Links and Resources: 👉 Try Retainly free for 30 days at getretainly.com. 216. AI and Photography: How Photographers Can Protect Their Images, Copyright, and Client Contracts

AI isn’t just changing how photographers edit anymore. It’s changing what clients think they can do with the images they receive and creating some seriously messy questions around copyright, ownership, derivative works, and client contracts. Clients are uploading professionally photographed images into AI platforms to change posing, facial features, skin, aesthetics, and more. Other people are using photographers’ work to create AI-generated portfolio images. And even large brands are experimenting with AI-generated marketing assets based on imagery that originated with real photographers. So…what does all of this mean for photographers? In this episode, I’m breaking down what I’m seeing in the photography industry right now, why AI use is creating so much tension around photographers’ rights, and why clear contract language is becoming even more important as AI use becomes increasingly normal. We’re talking about: Why clients may see uploading professional photos into AI as “improving” something they already paid forThe copyright concerns that arise when clients use AI to alter photographers’ images and create derivative worksHow people are using AI-generated images to create misleading photography portfoliosWhat can happen when brands use photographers’ original imagery as the basis for new AI-generated marketing assetsWhy photographers shouldn’t rely only on general copyright law when setting expectations with clientsThe contract sections photographers should consider addressing when it comes to AIGet the AI Clause Bundle for Photographers and Videographers: https://thelegalpaige.com/collections/all/products/ai-disclaimer-clause-for-photographers-and-videographers  Additional Links and Resources: 👉 Try Retainly free for 30 days at getretainly.com. 215. Meet Retainly: The Simple CRM I Built for Service-Based Business Owners

It’s finally time to talk about Retainly! 🎉 I’ve been building this platform behind the scenes for nearly two years, and after slowly teasing it across TLP, Instagram, TikTok, and our community, I’m finally giving you the FULL story—where Retainly came from, what it actually does, why I built it, and what makes it different from other CRMs. Retainly is intentionally simple. It’s built around the core things service-based business owners need every day: proposals, contracts, invoicing, and client + project management. Here’s what I cover: Why my own experience as a photographer, attorney, and business owner led me to build Retainly. How Retainly takes you from proposal → contract → invoice without piecing together a million different platforms. Why the contract experience is at the center of Retainly and how your purchased TLP contracts integrate directly into the platform. What changed with the launch of Retainly 2.0 + how the new Refer and Earn program works.Where Retainly is headed next, including project files, statuses and tags, scheduling features, and more. This has been one of the biggest projects of my adult life, and I’m SO excited to finally share it with you. Retainly is user-led, community-backed, and we’re just getting started. Get Retainly: 👉 Try Retainly free for 30 days at getretainly.com. 214. The 5 Lessons I Learned from Redesigning Our Shopify Website

Surprise… we have a brand new website! 🎉 Honestly, updating our site was not on my 2025 bingo card. The old site was fine, it did the job, and I had a hundred other things on my plate. But after working with an incredible dev team on another project, they started poking holes in thelegalpaige.com—and I realized it was time to make a big change. Now our new custom Shopify site is live (go to https://thelegalpaige.com and check it out!) and in this episode, I’m sharing the 5 biggest takeaways from this process so you have a roadmap when it’s your turn to revamp your own website. Here’s what I cover: Why website projects always take longer than you think (and how to budget your timeline so you don’t lose your mind). Why you can’t disappear from the design process—even if you hire amazing experts. How we used AI to speed things up, but why brand voice and human POV still matter more than anything. Why templates are fine for the early stages, but custom is the right move when you’re ready to scale. Why UX beats fancy features every time (and how we simplified navigation + product pages to make buying contracts easier). This wasn’t just a facelift—it was about making thelegalpaige.com faster, easier to navigate, and more user-friendly for the thousands of small business owners who come to us for contracts, education, and resources. 👉 Go take a spin through the new site at https://thelegalpaige.com and let me know what you think. If you tag me on Instagram with your favorite part of the new site, I’ll even send you coffee on me ☕—because launching a new website deserves a celebration, and I don’t want to celebrate this milestone alone.
