S1 Ep0: Welcome & Why
A warm welcome to Coffee & Flowers, explaining who, what and why.

S1 Ep1: 'Fake Empire'
We begin exploring 'Boxer' with a tiptoe through the album's melancholic first track, exploring the real, the fake, and the big opener that almost wasn't.
-
S1 Ep2: 'Mistaken For Strangers'
We consider the unmagnicifcent lives of adults and the reluctant deal we all make with the world as we leave youth.
-
S1 Ep3: 'Brainy'
We follow the footsteps of two people in a game of cat and mouse with help from Brainy herself, Carin Besser.
-
S1 Ep4: 'Squalor Victoria'
We consider the unheavenly travails of white-collar employment in a track that, for Matt, was all about restraint.
-
S1 Ep5: 'Green Gloves'
This episode we find a tender exploration of humans, their objects, and the connections we form.

I need more
I loved this podcast and I need more. It’s in the title AND the review, so I definitely need more please. But thanks for this
Podcast I didn’t know existed and now absolutely love.
I came across your podcast about two days ago from a comment exchange on Instagram between you and Matt. I have to say I’m simply devouring this, as a fan of The National (grew up in CT) came across them when Alligator was released and have seen them live many many times. Everything about this I’m a fan of. The production value, the way you break down each track and give an entire episode to it, the intermingling of the interview segments, the music, your discussions. It’s awesome. My only concern is I will complete the first season too quickly and be left waiting for the second. These are the conversations I’d love to be having with friends and fellow fans. Conversations I’ve had in my own head many times as I’ve listened to the records and contemplated the lyrics and musical flourishes. Thanks for making this. Awesome podcast.
Wonderful
I'm a fan of the band and I absolutely love the pod. I really hope there can be more seasons that discuss other records by The National! There are so many other songs that deserve this kind of insightful discussion! Maybe you could do an episode or two on some of the great individual songs that havent made it on to an album? You guys have just scratched the surface. Keep up the good work.
